101 ways to promote your website without costing $$

Great post, but we don't have 101 ways yet.

I'm a big fan of stumbleupon.com. So far I use it just for fun, but threads here at dp indicate you can get very decent traffic from SU

Spamming emails is a good way to get people annoyed of your site and also get yourself into some serious trouble.

I get lots of spam and it just gets on my wick. I delete it and never visit the sites listed in the emails.

Here's one thing I like to do. Search google for keywords that relate to your site. Usually you will see a link to a forum post discussing that issue on the first page of the serps. Register at that forum and post in that thread. Don't be spammy in your post, post something meaningful. But before you post put links in your sig to your site. If other people are searching for the same thing and come to that post, they will see a link to your site. This may sound like spamming, but to me it is a good, free promotional technique.

- Viral marketing: if it picks up, you'll enjoy the traffic for a long time
- Free ebooks/special report: if it's useful and free, people will find it

 

For photoshop tutorial sites, I would submit them to photoshop tutorial directories (you can a hundred - thousands of hits instantly!). I'd also repost your tutorial in photoshop tutorial forums.

 

Stumbleupon.com is great. I got a page of my blog stumbled and I got 3k uniques. I have since stumbled one of my own stories but didnt see the big traffic I did from my first stumble

 

This technique is very suitable if we give away (free) before we launch the sales. Give free ebook/report and show your expertise. Also write articles and make the peoples know you first.

I think this hasn't been mentioned, but start a newsletter on your site and build your own list of opt-in subscribers. This way you can get more returning visitors to your site.

Post on craigslist.

 

Run a contest and advertise it on social networks. I have seen contests where the entry is a "retweet" and a winner is chosen at random. That spreads the word quickly!

 

Whatifind has posted pretty much everything you need to concerntrate on.

 

I've had success selling t-shirts trough bigcartel site i made using myspace as my only source of getting traffic I didn't know about seo, backlinks, etc... Friend Adder bot + targeted profiles = Sales. I didn't even spam my friends with bulletins and comments. Since I discovered this site and I'm adding knowledge to my online marketing methods.
