    To emphasize everyone's point here, a sudden burst of traffic will do little for your search rankings. Though more traffic to your website can only be a good thing so why wouldn't you do it - if it's legit traffic and your not paying some dodgy service for pop-unders or something ...

    you can 10k visitors by getting into front page of digg n proper use of stumble once i got 16k visits in a day for 1 of my site

    in 1 hour your site visit 10000 its good but its not more infect to ranking you just work on link building and look your site ranking is improve and PR also.

    Google couldn't track if your site is getting traffic from other source unless you have installed google analytics.
