    1. It seems better to use semi-automatic submission via "Directory submitter" or "Allsubmitter". In manual mode it`s easier to check the propper category selection. Some catalogs can decline Your link if the wrong tree was selected.
    2. Professional software is better because of possibility of insertion of varied short and full descriptions (different descriptions are looking natural for SE). Simillar desc. are giving less weight to You.

    automated tool - could submit 20k directories for a half day. But is there any necessity?
    I do not advise anyone to join as many. It's better to pay attention to quality.
