To a large company it's worth it to not have to worry about some idiot letting an important domain expire.

I wonder what percentage of contact information would still be correct 100 years from now.

Well you can get it to 10 years on all others which is more than adequate. and u can always extend it later. Prices are cheap with other domain resellers. It's an unnecessary feature really.

MS lost microsoft.com for a few days when their accounts payable dept didn't get a check off in time. IT happens. I think there is a waiting period before a name can be re-registered for reasons such as this.

And in 100 years the price to renew will probably be $1.00 a year. Pay now and you pay more!!

This assumes the internet, let alone society, is still around and/or functioning in 3005 and that we have not all been assimilated :p

Actually only NSI is offering this right now for $999

I wonder how much credit would Google give you for this?
In their patent, it is said that more credibility is given to domain that have long registration period.

I think this makes more sense than registering 100 years.. in a 100 years the registration system may have changed so much, things might get messed up not renewing every six to ten years or so.

Maybe in 100 years there will be no more need for the web. We will have Windows-compatible minds. And IKEA will sell self-setting furniture with cleare instructions) That's it.

    Thanks,

It's not an idiot at all for planing as if you'll have the domain for life. It's called selling a domain and making money off it when you retire.

Is is actually registering for 100 yrs or does your registrar just promise to keep renewing for the 100 yrs :D

I also agree with Nintendo- go to your CP and add a sig. and you won't have to paste it into each post.

Well, with inflation and all that, more like $100 a year :D ...but yeah, that might be $1 in today's currency.
