100$ Webpage design contest. PSD. Uncoded. Bigger contract for the winner

Ok Here is the Deal. I need to redesign the www.42topics.com. This is a contest to create a new PSD design for this.
What I want,
1. Light colors.
2. Not too graphic heavy. Not so plain as it is right now also.

But If I do not like any design more than the current design, I keep the right to not accept any design. The winner will get the contract to design many other pages on the website as well (For extra pay of course). I will track this thread and leave feedback for all the designs. Happy Designing!

 

What about the logo? You want a new one with the design? Or just the design?

 

If I like to logo you have in design, well and good. Other wise I will use your design and get the logo made at some other place. This is primarily for a new design.

 

Hi... should we retain the color schemes or can we create our own?

 

This is a full redesign. You are free to do anything you want with the color scheme.

1. Don't worry about ads now. We are not going to have ads for a long time.
2. Arrows should be a little bigger.
3. In the sidebar, top, recent, tags will not be three different tabs as all are shown at the same time.
4. "42topics is place to find interesting things to read." text should be a little more prominent.
5. Login box takes little too much space.

Hi Here is the feedback.
1. "Top Recent Tags" Are three different columns in the sidebar. So they must line up with their respective coumns.
2. For arrows, we need 4 different arrows. Up arrow/ Up arrow after voting/ Down/Down afer voting. Try to show all 4 arrows (In different links). Ask if this is confusing.
3. Reduce the distance between two links.
4. Try to show some links with multiple lines as well (Where the title is long).

 

Also please let you last remain entry remain in the thread so that I can compare them. Keep the designs coming guys!

Hi Guys. Here is the feedback.

Dulce:
1. Try a few more arrow styles. Try sites fyynd.com, jaanix.com etc for inspiration.
2. All the links in the sidebar btow "Top ..." must be of same size. There is a more link in the Top/Recent columns.
3. On second thoughts add a block where we can show ads in the sidebar. I will promote other Topics from the same time in that block. (Similar to what was in your first design.)
4. How about moving the text "$2topics is a place .." to main content area. I want this text to be prominent.
5. Add a block in the sidebar with two columns. Simlar to "Top .." block, but that has three columns.
