Nice idea. I guess you would be lucky to have your balloon found though, since 70% of the earth is water and your note is only in one language .

 

That made me laugh. How far do these things generally go though?

 

thats a nice idea.. but whats the point of people wasting money buying ballons just to see where they will go?..

 

The target market would surprise you Mostly adults with younger kids, a great family activity/etc. - Go to the park, release them, etc.

And for the "only eng. letter" ~ It's meant for the US only, most balloons travel far but not out-of-country far, nobody is saying EVERY balloon is found, but thats what makes it fun

 

It surprises me how few people remember or know about this?!? I live in Southern California, near the beach (Right next to a HUGE ocean) and if you guys think about it, generally the wind blows IN from the sea. When I was a kid I did this in several schools and several groups I belonged to as a child. Although not all of the balloons where found, a good percentage of them where found.

This is something that was sooooo fun to do as a child. This site would be PERFECTLY marketed to schools and after school programs and child groups like the boys and girls club etc.

AND the unique thing about this is that the site advertises itself with each balloon released.

I dont understand....I cannot see where people pay the money ? Or is that done on the street, in schools etc ?

I'd assume the profit would be from ad revenue. You might be able to charge for people to use it, but the major revenue would be ad revenue imo. Kids LOVE to click things on web pages, and are very curious creatures when they see ads. Especially if it contains something that looks "fun" in a banner ad or graphic, instead of a text ad. Those ads like MySpace have, with the flash games to win a free ring tone, those have a MAJOR CTR on this site.

Anyways, great site, I know I plan on using it to bring back some childhood memories.

Site is pending @ BIN ~ The site truly is a 100% unique idea, look around. I feel as if im going to be crying in a few months when the site is huge/very active, but it will be cool to see.

 

Not true. When I was a kid, 6th grade I think, we had a school project where we released balloons with little tags asking the finder to please send back with location found. One of my balloons traveled over 500 miles.

 

I just found out about this balloon site today (Feb 6).

Looks like I missed it.

I had thoughts of just such a project in my youth (pre-internet era) and am a web developer.

If its not sold I'll do the $150

If it is sold, the buyer can make a quick $50.

Sounds like fun.
