Interesting Bob, I just wonder if anyone uses directories to find anything in the age of search engines.

 

Search engines use directories to create their indexes

 

Some meta search engines use them as a component, Google may draw from DMOZ a bit but I don't think they help all that much.

The question is how many use them to actually find stuff

 

If it weren't that many directories, Google would not have a 8 bilion sites index now.

And people that do not know this SEO business, would hurt

 

I think it's possible that they're frequented more often by those submitting to them as opposed to those who actually use them.
