I found a cool list of the 100 oldest .com names on the web. I hope it’s interesting to see who popped onto the net first.

Well known companies in the top 100: Xerox, HP, IBM, Sun, Intel, Texas Instruments, AT&T, Siemens, Boeing, NEC, Adobe, AMD, 3COM, Philips, Cisco, Dupont, Lockheed Martin, and Allied (Car rental).

Some companies you'd expect to be on the web that early, some you would not. For example, you wouldn't expect Allied Car rentals to have a domain that early.

Google isn't on that list. Wanna Digg?

In April 1985 cmu.edu, purdue.edu, rice.edu and ucla.edu were the first registered domain names.

The first .gov was css.gov and was registered in June 1985.

The first .org was mitre.org and was registered in July 1985.

"sites"? They weren't web sites, if that's what you mean.
