    Introduction
Hey everybody! Back in 2016 I had a couple successful design contests here on DigitalPointForum. Now that I have an opportunity to design a new logo, I thought I would come here again.

For your reference, here are links to the past contents I ran:
I had an amazing time here and so did the other designers (as you can see in the below screen shot.) So I expect to also have a really good experience here again. :)

    Design Brief

The company name is DataChat. They are in the IT sector and use artificial intelligence algorithms to help with data analytics. The company is highly innovative and has developed a bot. Business users of DataChat can have a customized bot where they can perform complex data analytics, but with the simplicity of natural language questions.

A similar company in this industry is Looker (https://looker.com/). DataChat is different because they are not a typical a Silicon Valley startup. In fact, they are not located in California like all the other competitors. Instead, what makes DataChat unique is the fact that they are in Madison, Wisconsin and have their offices physically located on the campus of a prestigious midwestern university: UW-Madison.

The company is located on a university campus and shares the same vibrant energy and academic character inside the walls of the office as the surrounding campus. DataChat’s office is surrounded by three important centers of knowledge: the College of Engineering, the College of Computer Science and the College of Biotechnology. This nexus of talent and ideas from the campus means that the company is always forward-thinking, on the leading edge, and filled with vibrant and dynamic talent. For this reason, we are seeking a new logo design.

    Logo Purpose
The purpose of the logo is to Identify.
The purpose of the logo is not to literally communicate what the company does.

    Logo Design Input
    • Let’s start with designing the mark of the new logo
    • Use just black for the design.
    • Use the word “DataChat”

The D and As of this design form chat bubbles, hinting at what the company does while not being too literal.
The red used is UW-Madison red.

We should stick with the black design. No need for color. I understand you took it from the university colors, but we can worry about the color later on. ;)

The design looks good. It's an obvious choice to use the chat bubbles for inside, but it's a bit overpowering. Keep the creative energy flowing!

Thanks for the design. I like the wordmark part. The logo/mark part looks very basic.

This is an interesting approach to use the state capital. Although the University campus is near the capitol building, it's not actually the same thing. The capitol is for government/politics. The physical location of the company's headquarters is on the campus location.

The campus buildings are different from the capitol building.

This one is interesting. It seems "forward thinking" with the tilt. It seems edgy with the sharpness of the design. It's got some potential.

I'm not too sure about this one. I think it's trying to be too literal with the chat bubble on the "D".

This one seems very literal (with an obvious chat bubble)

The wordmark seems to need some kerning. It looks a bit too far spread out.
The icon/logo is "ok". I like the concept of making it like a badge with the background. But it seems the chat bubble is too easy of a logo. Too common.
