Microsoft has joined forces with the developers of the "$100 laptop" to make Windows available on the machines. The move was prompted by countries which demanded the operating system before placing an order. Trials of laptops loaded with Windows will begin in "four to five" countries from June, the organisations said. The founder of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), which developed the machines, denied the move was a "desperate new measure" to secure more orders. $100 laptop embraces Windows XP
The cost of development of these low cost laptops is really increasing and as per the last price update it has already reached a manufacturing cost of $188. Yes, it is very much essential for Microsoft to get its OS working on these low end laptops which eventually will have a huge market share in future. So if Microsoft gets in at the right time i am sure they will be able to expose their OS to a lot more people. Regards, World_peace
I think you started this thread in the wrong section. Anyway, we will get a laptop with windows XP for $100? If yes, then what are the specifications for that Laptop?
They need to stop calling it $100 laptop then. Now it is a $200 laptop. Also, isn't Microsoft going to stop support WinXP on a few years. So, all these school children that couldn't afford the shoes on their feet non the less a computer with internet are going to be left without any support. Way to go Microsoft!! NOT!! That is why it should have stay'd with linux on it instead of WinXP. Maybe I sound cynical about this, but I feel that more poor people with a way to connect on the internet will lead to more scams being done for people trying to get easy money and no real way to police these scams, because they are going to be done from a third world type of country with no real form of government that will enforce some sort of laws on the scammers. .
the $100 laptop will be a recycled old laptop worth nothing really ..not that i have read this thread.. i bet it will have the minimalist ram xp can handle(maybe less..just to force the customer to purchase more ram)..the cheapest harddrive..etc.. gee this xp thing is peeving me off..win95 got a longer shelf life than xp..or so it seems.. bah i'm going to bed.
