I don't agree with it being harder to design around somebody else's logo - the fact is, in 99% of cases of redesigns there is already a logo in place.

how wide is a wide layout?

 

go to yahoo.com and click page options and click switch to wide layout. (it might already be on wide when u go to yahoo.com) If it has the vertical menu on the left its in wide layout.

Oh i see, its when its designed for 1024x768 users instead of 800x600 users
