Thanks man; I actually forgot this was a layout contest! Just seeing so many logos on here I was thinking it was a logo contest. I will try and submit a layout if I get the time later on today. I'm sure more people will create a layout if you give it a little while mate.
I will try and get a layout done later tonight. Does the contest include building the layout and if so what functionality are you expecting. Thanks. Josh
LAYOUT DESIGN UPDATE: Here is a idea of what im looking for. To start off i want it to be a blue light color. i want the same blue that aol.com uses.Go to aol.com and click blue at the top right. I want a blue like that. For the overall layout of the site i want it like msn.com. Msn uses a traditional page structure, like it has the white middle and it has a backround that is blue. I want it to be like that, meanwhile aol and yahoo use a floating type where everything floats on a white backround. for the header i want it to be like http://fr.yahoo.com The logo will be in middle with the search underneath. Now for the middle content area. Im gonna need a menu on the left side like yahoo.com. Then next to that to the right, i want a box like on yahoo.com that has tabs and has like news, etnertainment, sports, tv. Then next to that on the far right i want a spot for a sqaure ad. Then under the ad i want a 4 section thing like on aol.com on the right. It has like radio, mail etc.. and when u mouse over ti expands. I want one of them. Then just fill the rest with content boxes like aol.com, yahoo.com and msn has. Thanks p.s. i want it to be a wide page layout NO CODING REQUIRED JUST DESIGN
I think my entry is the kind of entry that just takes away the other designers fears of submitting the worst design. :/
Nah, I suck at template design, my layers all get in a mix and I loose myself. I suck slightly less at logo design, so I'll stick to that
Heh, you need to get into the habit of naming and grouping your layers as you go. Create a group called 'Header' and then have like layers called 'logo', 'rectangle1', 'shine', etc. etc. That is very frustrating for all people at first but sorting them takes the stress away. It's a shame if you give up cos of that cos your basic design there looked good.
Personally I don't like making layouts, if it dosent look good then you have to scrap the lot. If a logo dosent look good, there are a few things that you can do to get it back on track. I know I mention this every thread D) but I win like 1:30 contests, so if I'm going to loose, I'd rather put less effort into the loosing entry. It's all practice I suppose, but recently my logos have been getting much better imo, and I want to concentrate on that. That probably didn't make sense, -Hecky
It did make sense, and fair play to you man. A few people are specialised in one area (I think Speno is mainly logos, i'm mainly flyers, raghav is logos..) and it's better to play to your strengths. Saying that though, if you want to be a designer for a profession, it's better to try your hand at everything. Even if you don't win header or template contests, the experience you gain is something that the prize money could never buy.
good job hecky but its not what im looking for. but u already figured that out lol, ive been watching other threads and your logos are getting better each time!
If I was doing this to be a professional designer, to earn money, I would have quit months ago . I just do this for fun, and perhaps earn enough to pay for a little something every month or so . Anyway, back to the contest I think.
just a square ad, go to aol.com and yahoo.com and look at there ads and use that size.and a wide page layout is, go to yahoo.com and click page options on the right side and click wide page.
Do you think it would be better to choose a logo design first mate? A lot of people tend to design around a logo so it might help I guess? Not sure though.
