Hi guys (and girls), I need your opinion. I have a few clients needing new website designed. Now, I can do the coding but I suck at design I saw & used the contest section here and my question is: will $100 be enoguh for a custom, state of the art wordpress theme? No extra stuff, just a standard template (based on wordpress 3) + design (usually including small logo redesign). Normally $100 would be enough but here is the little "extra": I would need an invoice plus either sources of images/code used or a contract with the designer, stating that he did the design or/and that he's taking the responsibility for any copyright issues. I would, of course, prefer the second option, because the designer may just tell me he did all the design work and a month later I'll get a nice invoice from someone saying we stole his work What do you think?
Stolen work is quite common on DigitalPoint , if you want to be sure of this hire someone that's close to you . There are some German designers around here . AFAIK as long as the other person is in the EU you can send him the invoice you get along with the police . You'll loose the design but he has way more to loose because he defrauded you and infringed on copyright laws . I'm not 100% sure if this is also the case for US/Canada/NZ/AUS I do know that copyright laws are also enforced there but to what extent IDK .
I have been having bad experience lately with people from odesk and freelancer 2x now ive gotten people to do some work and there portfolio seems solid but when they do work it absolutely sucks. Seems for me you got to delve deeper not just look at there profile sites that have been done i made that mistake. Example i picked a guy the other day for $100 to do a theme for me on a php image hosting script i seen his portfolio and i thought heck those are nice sites he created. After hiring them i look closer alot of the work was just fixes like coding. or moving a couple things around not designing the whole website. They can be misleading sometimes. Ill be sure to look closer next time i think.
it's ideally best to find a designer whom you can contact personally in case something messes up. If you hire someone over the internet, and he potentially scams you, then there's very little you can do.
There are some solid laws in place in the USA and in the EU that make fraud a very very bad idea . It's only a matter of a few signatures .
I agree with ApocalypseXL most work on here is low Q or stolen and also only a few people can provide proper invoices. From my expirience also a contest might not suit the needs providing a high quality theme to your client.
I think you won't find anyone to create you a custom, unique, wordpress theme, for $100. With the low price, you get low services. That's why people around copy the designs, or stuff like that. But if you have an higher budget, you could hire someone that does unique work.
Ok, thanks for the info. In the end, I guess I will either have to hire someone part-time or pay more...
Wasnt a wordpress theme just a image hosting script theme but i already had $150 i paid one scammer so ill have over $250 in it.But i got some nice replys here and one person in general i think im going to go with and if they do a good job they can potentially make thousands on my corporate jobs i have lined up giving them an incentive to do good work. But we shall see.
