$100 enough for a month-long contest?

Hi everyone, I'm planning on having a month-long contest to promote the first-year anniversary of my biggest site. I'm thinking the prize would be $100. Does this seem a reasonable amount for a month-long contest?

It's not like the contestants would have to work every day for 30 days, the contest would simply be to refer as many visitors as you can to my site, top referrer winning the prize.

    Thoughts?

Well, the bigger the prize, the bigger the response. Estimate how much you stand to make from the contest, and maybe figure the prize according to that. Plus you have to figure you'll continue to make money from the contest even after it's over due to the referrals.

    Maybe make a plan.
    winner $100 + platinum membership
runners up $50 + elite membership
10 runners up elite membership + free ebooks
something like that. I think you got my point.
the more people you you can involve the better.
membership and ebooks wont cost you anything.
    Just my idea.

I reckon make it liek 110 or something.....

the 110 feels more then just 100 =)

    "price point marketing" =)

also yeah throw in some other stuff that people might like, etc cheap things =)

    good luck with it

I agree with what was said here and I really like the idea about the first senond and third palce winners. This makes it even better for everyone because they will have more of a reason to compete. They have more of a chance to win something and thats always fun.

If you are trying to do this with marketers...I doubt free ebooks will entice any of them since they are already everywhere...and the 100 might not even do anything for them...well...maybe it will :)

It depends how big your budget is really... and although it is to promote the first anniversary, how do you plan on capitalising on this to recoup the contest-prize money?

I also think second and third prize places are a good idea as this will make more people actually believe they have a chance of winning something for their hard work, which they do.

Well, the site's is strictly informational, so there are no memberships.

Other than that, all ideas sound reasonable. I might be able to find something to add on top of the money and I'll see if I can afford a second prize. The site is in the middle of a growth spurt, so I might have a bigger budget by the time the anniversary actually rolls around :)

Thanks to everyone who put in their thoughts.

A new webmaster forum called Profit Geek is running a month long contest, and they're giving away well over $1000 in cash/prizes. They give out stuff every day. Including a $250 prize for referrals :).

Click here to check it out.
