We have bought a WiredTree (search for their reviews and you will know they are a premium hosting provider who knows what they are doing) hybrid server worth $100 that's fully managed, monitored and supported. It was intended for a local hosting business but we eventually decided that it could be heading another way.

We tried to add rvskin and fantastico so they added $1 to this $99 hybrid plan, resulting in a custom bill of $100 per month. In addition, we used a coupon code to add an additional 512BM of RAM to the box. So, what we got here is:

    Hybrid Dedicated Server
    1536MB Memory

    Additional Options
CPU Cores : 1 Xeon CPU Core
Hard Disk Space : 80GB RAID-10 Disk Space
Control Panel : cPanel / WHM / Fantastico Auto Installer
Premium Bandwidth : 2000GB Premium Transfer

    Support Services
    Fully Managed
    24x7 Phone and Helpdesk
    24x7 Proactive Monitoring
    Proactive Updates
    ServerShield Hardening

    Monthly Cost
    $100 Base Cost
    $0 Setup
    $100 Total

Some more information you should know about this server:

    Data center: 426 LaSalle, Chicago
    OS: CentOS 5.4
    Web server: Apache 2
    SSI: Yes
    PHP: PHP 5.2.10
    PHP EAccelerator: Yes
    IonCube: Yes
    Zend Optimizer: Yes
    phpinfo(): http://www.jointlyhosted.com/phpinfo.php
(If you are uncomfortable with any of the settings, just let us know at this forum and we will surely get them taken care of)
    MySQL: MySQL 5.0.81
    CP: cPanel
    Uplink: 100Mbps
    phpMyAdmin: Yes
    Firewall: CSF
    Apache: mod_security, mod_evasive
.... And much more security optimizations.

Every user / account comes with:

IP: A dedicated public IP address
    Storage: 10GB disk storage (6 x 12GB = 60GB, 20GB reserved for server stuff)
    Transfer: 300GB monthly transfer (6 x 300GB = 1800GB, 200GB reserved for server stuff)
    SSH: SSH access
    Addon domains: Unlimited
    Subdomains: Unlimited
    SQL Databases: Unlimited
    FTP Accounts: Unlimited
    Email Accounts: Unlimited

    Raw logs: Yes
Web file manager: Yes (though I'd recommend google apps)
    POP3 / SMTP: Yes
Autoresponders, forwarders, SpamAssassin, CalmAV: All yes
    Webmail: Horde, SquirrelMail, RoundCube
Uptime guarantee: 100% by WiredTree SLA (but let's face it, 99.9% is more realistic)
Hardware replacement: 1 Hour Replacement Guarantee

To make sure this server is never crowded, we only sell 6 accounts on this server. The yearly cost of this server from WiredTree is $100 x 12 = $1200. To neutralize the cost of paypal fees / fund transfer and community management as well as time spent in keeping the server in good shape, we will ask for $1200 x 120% = $1440.

Split $1440 among 6 users would be $240 per year. That's just $20 per month for all these features above, including a dedicated IP and community support.

Just do the math yourself - it's absolutely a profitless UNDERSOLD server that's bound to be fast and responsive. It won't be problem-free but 99% of the problems from oversold shared hosting can be surely exterminated here. Most of the affordable shared hosting providers jam like 500 users into a dedicated server, severely crippling the server performance.

After you have been accommodated and have your account set up on the server, you can verify all these by this and this via SSH. You can verify the memory usage by 'free -m' and you will see there is a total of 1.5GB RAM and over 1.2GB of them are free for your websites and applications. On average, each user has a perfect share of over 200MB RAM, which is already better than those 256MB VPS plans from other providers - after OS, Apache, WHM / cPanel, etc., there are only just about 100MB left for your own applications.
