Yes, you can - as long as you're ok with lower CPU / memory / space & bandwidth specs, or some other compromises.

Not recommending these since I don't have any experience - but take a look at

http://servers.aplus.net/valueservers.html - read the bit below where they talk about these being surplus, no customisation possible

    http://www.layeredtech.com/ - see their layer1 and layer2 offers.

I would recommend you checkout servint.net.
Start with a VPS and then add more as your grow.

Yeah i agree with you David..but some companies charge around 50$ for vps and even more i think then one should go for Dedicated instead of vps :)
    Thanks,
    Saad :)

The planet offers $69 servers now. Also see FDC but be prepared for downtime with FDC.

Thanks, I will go for this, seems like they have good customer service also.
Site is well designed also, a good sign at least. I think having a vere well designed web hosting site pays off very well. If I will have one some day, design is the first thing I will spend money on.

Important is no down time also. Oh, I really hate down time. First for the visitors you loose at the moment, then for the visitors you loose for the future, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

We offer "unmanaged" dedicated servers at HostDrive.com starting at just $89/mo. I guess it really depends on what you are looking for in terms of "managed". I mean we keep our customer's servers up to date with the latest patches and will of course assist you installing things. It really depends on how much hand hold you need. At $89/mo. it's hard to beat for what you get. The more hand holding, we typically will charge $50/hr...

Bear in mind that often you get a cheap dedicated server, but the performance ends up being worse, because the hardware is inferior to the VPS.

To host on a VPS, do you have to know how to setup the server?

Or is it the same as a shared hosting account with WHM?

Also, would you happen to know if serint.net allows proxy sites?

    Thanks,

You can takeover my dedicated server for $80. Already paid for until Nov 23. After that it will be $145 a month. It is fully managed and they have been flawless for the past few months. My site has just grown exponentially and I need to get a much powerful server from them. Let me know if you are interested through PM

It depends you can get a VPS with WHM already installed on it if you want.

You can also get a unmanaged VPS with nothing setup on it and Do-It-Yourself
