I need a custom CSS/XHTML compliant design for my new site NoDoubtMarketing.com

This will be the homepage for my company, No Doubt Marketing. I'm young, I'm energetic and I'm dedicated. I'm modern and trendy. I want the website to reflect that.

    I absolutely want Web 2.0

I LOVE the design of this site: www.cakephp.org

Please try to do something like with that site. I love the colors, love the design, love the logo.

$100 to be paid via Paypal - Winner declared on or before 6PM US Eastern time Sunday - Winner will also have opportunity to create logo for the site for extra money - I reserve the right to not choose a winner if no designs please me

Good luck all and I'm excited to see what you come up with! If you have any questions, let me know.

Not bad, but not really what I was looking, especially in the colors department. I wish you could use the colors and a bit more of the general idea from the site I specified, CakePHP. Try that, with your skills I'd love to see another entry.

The design uses a Web 2.0 palette. Be honest, do you want a copy of the CakePHP design? It wouldn't be hard or unfair; I was looking for a unique approach with this design based upon the ideas of the sample website.

I am being honest in saying that I want something like it. I don't like the colors and I don't want pinks. I'm sure there are plenty of other colors in that Web 2.0 palette ;) And, to be honest, I don't see it playing off the ideas of that design too much. Just a young guy's opinion.

I've read through a lot of these contests to see the quality of work here and I've noticed that whenever anyone gives you comments on your work, Scarlet, you always try to defend your previous design rather than try something new that the contest-starter asks you to do. Of course, it's all up to you.

Yeah, some people don't take constructive criticism very well...

I was the same for years until I realised that there's far more pay-off in keeping quiet and just trying another design.

I quite like the design above but it doesn't really keep to the brief given.

Still, i'm sure he'll find a use for it in the future and can sell it easily.

*By the way, if anyone has found any inspiration belonging to me, please PM it back to me. Been lost since Monday.*

Yes, there are plenty of colours in the palette, but it's also a task to figure out which colours are good for the design. The ideas are doing exactly what you said : "They are not playing off too much", which has been my aim to make sure that it is not the same to the CakePHP design.

I 'defend' my design if I feel that genually something is wrong. I have seen contests won here that have been highly unorthadox, low quality, un-professionally presented, in wrong DPi plus more, and of course I will make sure that everybody knows this and realises the difference between my design and the competitor's design. I'm not going to bum off from working in a contest when I strongly feel that the winner hasn't deserved the prize due to the example points I placed above.

This is completley irrelevant to anything although, I always argue the fact that we need more then a couple of lines to understand and define a design. You say :

    "I absolutely want Web 2.0"

My design is 'absolutley Web 2.0' and it always will be, but now you comment about the colours. So of course it would of been better to have said :

"I absolutely want Web 2.0, with the same colour scheme as CakePHP and no pinks."

And this is what infuriates me about the contests here : We are made to repeat design concepts over and over when things could of been cleared up before. Now you see why I defend myself.

Did your eyes skip over that second part? Your comments are harsh and you need to learn to accept some constructive criticism. I did NOT say that your design was NOT Web 2.0, I did NOT say it sucked. All I said was that it was not really what I was looking for or what I asked for, IN MY OPINION, which matters a lot because it is my contest. :D

I pointed out a site, stated that I want something similar to it and that I love the colors, the logo and the design. What more could I say? How much more detail can I put there? I could go on and on about what I don't want, but what's the point? What I do want is right there, in black and white.

These are people's contests. They are paying for them with their hard earned money and I believe if they do not like something, they have a right to not like it. And they don't deserve to have someone be upset be they do not like their design. That infuriates ME.

Do we have to code it too mate? Or just the design? I'm in for the design part if that's ok.

It's not about skipping over any parts, it is still not clear in what you say. (I am the designer, I am the one doing the work here). I did not say or make out that you are saying my design sucked. Your criticism has been constructive and I have accepted it. But I want to make you aware of my own feelings, because this is a two-way thing here - I and all the other designers are not guniea pigs whom which you tell what to do and expect us to be emotionless and follow orders.

The colours are from a web 2.0 pallette and I said that because you mentioned Web 2.0. You also said the colours are off, hence why I said : "They are from a Web 2.0 pallette". What you didn't say is what colours you would like, only that you like the colours on the sample website. I am acting upon what you DO say.

The point to put more detail in a contest is so we f****** know what we are doing, along with we know pointers in how to design to your best needs. It is NOT black and white, because I am the damn designer here, you have just said you have liked the CakePHP design and want something like that. That can mean ANYTHING and it is not as simple as you think it is.

These are also OUR contests aswell, don't forget that. At the end of the day, it is US spending hours to satisfy you, with the little information you give us. It is US who are left with nothing if you do not pick out design. It is US who feel the effect if you give no feedback or abandon the contest.

Anyway this is another post that is irrelevant and has made me lose my temper. I have no intention to recieve an infraction; I subtract myself and my design from this contest. Good luck trying to work with people.

I'm not sure, ATF. I took some time to think it over and I have decided to go in a different direction with the look and feel of my site. If the design creator doesn't come up with a good logo, I'm going to have you do another.

Davey, don't worry about coding it. I can do that. Just the design is fine if that's all you want to do.

I did want it coded, but if someone just wants to offer a design, I'll offer $75 for just the design without the code.
