Today Its my 10th anniversary with Making Money Online with Online Ad companies. From Adsense to Adbrite worked with almost all major ad companies. Based upon those experiences let me draw some insights upon companies.

    1. CPM/CPC are the best performing ads as a publisher (for n00b or expert). Following are the some of companies which bits your bill

    a. Google Adsense: no matter how small your website is or how big your website is Google Adsense has been and still is the best ad company to work with if your website is not violating any of their terms and conditions (yes they have strict rules). So if you have niche oriented blogs, forums or portals with good number of traffic then you can make money easily with Google Adsense. But if you are into illegal stuff like piracy, warez, porn then think of fooling the big G. All your earnings will freeze as soon as payment time comes. So NEVER APPLY for Adsense if you are running such websites. In last 10 years we made above half million $$ just with Google Adsense.

    b. Converstant (foremly FastClick then ValueClick Media): They are still one of the best in CPM/CPM market all you need to do is tune the adserving filters. You need to have at least 20K pageviews per day in order to apply. Once your website gets popular then you can apply for it. The company also have strict rules, but not as strict as Adsense. In mid 2000s the company then called FastClick used to pay excellent CPMs even touching $10 for banner ads. When you think of those days, you feel like a dream. We made most with them with VideoAds, Banners, Popups & Interstitial. Made more than 300K in last 10 years. Even until 2014 they had excellent fill rate of above 90%, but these days they have low fill rate ard. 40% for banner ads. Still they have good CPC/CPM rates compared to the rest.

    c. Casale Media & Tribal Fusion: They were known as elite companies even those days. They had some of the best CPM/CPC rates in the industry, surpassed even Adsense for CPC/CPM ads. Though their fill rate were low ard. 40% during those days. We had chance to work with Casale Media for about 2 years, Tribal Fusion for around 4 years during peak of our portals. They have some of highest traffic requirements, even in 2006 they required ard. 200K per day page views. We made good money (above 100K) during those short period. If you have good organic traffic (above 50K minimum visitors per day) then you can still apply for them.

    d. Burst Media : Good CPC/CPM company which rose to fame during 2007/2008 for its good rate but terrible fill rate. Had chance to work with them for a year or two. They were best for using as first level in chain as they had not more than 20% fill rate for any Geos. Didn't make much, but whatever we made were worth while for the inventory we allotted.

Above were the premium companies we worked during those days. Today we are still working with Adsense & Conversant which are still great compared to new crop of companies.
If you have GOOD TRAFFIC * then you can still apply to above companies to make most.

*GOOD TRAFFIC: Good traffic does not necessarily mean huge number of traffic. Worth of traffic is calculated by its Origin and Geo.
Origin means source of traffic whether it is from bookmark, direct, referral, backlinks or from searches.

Traffic from searches are the most valuable ones. Then comes backlinks from GOOD PR Ranking websites. If your traffic source come from BBC, CNN well you hit the jackpot.

Geo: Most ad companies pay good rates for traffic from US/CA. Then follows UK, DE & Australia. There though some ad companies who have huge inventory apart from above mentioned regions. Those companies pay based upon their inventory.

Basic rule of thumb is if you have HUGE number of organic/unpaid backlinks traffic from tier 1 geos (US/CA/DE/UK/AU) then you will make Good with above premium ad companies.

To be continued.... (PART 2: Working with 2nd level Ad Companies)
