Well with Infinity (directory in my sig and the one I've been talking about), it's only about a month old, and it doesn't get crazy traffic yet (PR update will do good things for me :) ), but it gets decent traffic for a new directory, and the returning visitor rate is almost 50% and has been for a while. So a lot of people are coming back to the site, which means some of them probably use the directory.

Once the site grows as well as the traffic, if the returning visitor rate stays high, a lot of people will be viewing a lot of pages in the directory, and with targeted ads in each category, they're likely to click them.

I mean unless you do a terrible job at putting up AdSense and just make an AdSense border around your site lol, it's not really going to hurt you at all. But it may give you some extra money, so in my opinion it may be worth it.

    here is another important tip:

dont expect to make money overnight. Money will come in due course of time, if you are prepared to work.

    Well, I wouldn't say that.

I do get very few click on my directory (1-2 clicks in 4-500 page views) but each click is worth between 60 cents and 1.4$.

Surely, you should adjust the pages in such a way that certain keywords are not considered by Adsense. For example, "submit", "add url", "submit site".. lots of directory advertisers use these phrases for low priced ads..

I don't remember now what was the code that tells Adsense to ignore parts of the page, but I know it exists.

I was saying exactly the opposite. Try to be more subtile when you pad your post count in the future.

I'm saying .. experiment with removing all the directory specific keywords from your directory and see what happens.

    Directory specific keywords :

directory, submit link, submit url, latest links, sponsored links, suggest link, suggest category, PHP Link Directory (mantain copyright, use images instead of texts)

Or, instead of removing these keywords, wrap them around google's tags that make Adsense ignore them.

That's a good average price per click. A lot of ads pay out <$0.05. It doesn't sound like you were trying to say the opposite, but maybe $1.40 is low for you or something.

I wasn't trying to increase my posts either, post count doesn't really matter to me. And "subtile" isn't a word :).

Nice article! Thanks for the sharing. Is it a good idea to put directories for sub domain? Will that increase the main site?

Also, where can I find this directory script? any free script :p

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say, but having a directory as a subdomain of your main site would be a good idea if it's a quality directory.
