10 Things That Annoy the **** Out Of Me about the Copywriting Sub-Forum

Now I'm hardly what you would call a regular poster @ DP, and sometimes I think it's because I'm a snob (I'm not really, although reading many of the posts, threads and comments often gives me an overwhelming sense of superiority...j/k). I don't always wish to get involved in many of the threads (as I do have an argumentative streak), although I have remained an active reader.

I understand that the whole idea of a forum is to add value, to get involved in active discussion/heated debate. However, I often arrive at the Copywriting sub-forum in the hope of some mental stimulation, and find myself shaking my head while simultaneously banging the same said head against my keyboard.

I'm sure I'll be in for some flak and ridicule after posting this, but I have a few hours spare this morning...so what the hell.

There are certain types of people who annoy me. Any of these sound familiar? And what about you guys and gals, anything you wish to add?

    1) People who have no idea what copywriting is and believe it has something to with plagiarism, copyright infringement, etc.

    2) People who decide not to read an entire thread before providing a comment, and therefore miss out on valuable information. This will typically render their reply absolutely useless.

    3) People who simply rewrite another poster's answer in a sentence or two in order to appear smart and helpful.

    4) People who leave one-liners that add no value, and are merely attempting to up their post count.

    5) People who have obviously never heard of a search engine or a forum search function and believe that forum members are here to wipe their backside for them.

    6) People who have a worse superiority complex than me and believe that there is only one way...their way.

    7) People who are unable to read (the rules are generally in a sticky at the top of each sub-forum) and post their job adverts or services that should, obviously, be posted elsewhere.

    8) People who call themselves professional writers, irrespective of their country of origin, because they decided (about 2 weeks ago) that writing was an easy way to earn money. Their writing experience and professionalism is based on the fact that they have submitted all of 10 articles to Ezine Articles (and had them accepted...woo-hoo) over that 2 week period!

    9) People who are fairly new and believe that the other members of the forum are not in the same league as them when it comes to intelligence. (Is that me and my superiority complex again?)

    10) People who believe that post count = knowledge and experience. I will admit that in the vast majority of cases this may be true, but I have often been humbled and educated by someone with 2 posts and astounded by the stupidity of someone else with 5,000.

    Thank you for reading

    James

I don't know about annoying... but I kind of can't help chuckling at some of the... less-than-friendly posts, shall we say? Just lurking and reading, it's a great way to study attitude-copywriter-interactions.

That's one of the funner (?) things about being a copywriter - watching and listening to those around you! How else can you get inside your prospects' heads?!

She said it all, and yes I'm doing #3 on your list of the top 10 annoying things. But honestly Senobia just said what I wanted to.

Since this is the only "10 things" thread in one hell of a long time, it's kinda funny, in a f----d up way, how anyone can be annoyed by them.

    (Should that be #11?)

That annoys me. But so does stupidity, so....

Damn good list, James. Spot on.

Too bad this can't be a sticky.

This year I'll be asking Santa for a link to such a (writers) copywriting) board.

Dot, I love reading the "less-than-friendly posts" and often have a chuckle too. However, from my intensive "research" I have discovered that amongst the many attributes that a great writer should possess is the ability to tell everyone how great you are, be as argumentative as you can, have a chip the size of a jacket potato on each shoulder, be as rude and condescending as humanly possible, and to believe that the whole world revolves around you...apparently!

Well I'm still learning, but 1 out of 5 ain't bad!

LOL! Perry, you've (as always) nail...head...the...hit...the...on (or something along those lines). When Santa finally does finally come through, I'll expect an invite, please!

Damn, I wish I could think of a few, but you pricks took just about all of them.

    Thanks!

Though there are, um, "professional copywriters" over at the warrior forum, and other such forums, yet their own sites look like my dog's butt.

    James,

I hear you. Maybe a separate sub-forum for the article writing would do the trick.

The copywriting forum is pretty active in the Warrior Forum. Omar's copywriting board is another solid choice as well.

    http://www.copywritingboard.com/forum.php

The archives on either one are solid resources for learning more about copywriting.

    Take care,

    Mike

I don't think they'll implement any changes here any time soon Mike.

You know what these mega forums are like, they'll dig their heels in hard and go kicking, screaming all the way most often before changing things for the better.

Good to see you again, hope all is well in your part of the world and that you're keeping yourself busy.

    Kindest regards,

    Mark
