Great list. I had never considered the google groups suggestion before, I'll have to try that out.

 

However, please note that Google Group links are no-follow, so you should use them for promotional purposes rather than SEO. The trick is to start a good topic that will steer the visitors towards your site and you can get some free traffic from Google Groups.

I agree, it seems that most of the opinions here relate to article submission which takes aa lot of time and I think everyone agrees that google groups is a waste of time and effort.
