10 seconds...

I just started using Google Analytics to track my sites stats. Anyways I was looking at my stats for my Adbrite campaign, and on average G-Analytics said a visitor only stayed for 10 secs from an Adbrite click.

So my question is how much can a person accomplish in 10 secs? To me it doesn't sound like very much, but it's probably relative to the pages content. On that page I have a bunch of links to other websites, so do you guys/gals think a person is just briefly reading over the content and then they click a link? I can't find in G-Analytics if it tells which links a person clicks on.

If the click takes you off of your domain, then there's no way to track it unless you do some redirection magic first, so Analytics can't tell what the visitor did next in this instance.

10 seconds is a lifetime when it comes to unconscious thought, and a visitor will make an instant unconscious decision about whether the web-site is 'right' for them or not, whether they'll stay and read, take action, or just click 'back'.

Then again, if given links, some click monkeys just can't help but keep clicking until they find a definite stopping point. For example, my girlfriend's 10-year old just can't help himself continuing to click and click and click because he never *reads* the page's content (even though he's found the Pokemon strategy guide he originally searched for, or whatever)

Sounds like a great page to put up some Adsense :)
