    Good day, everyone!

i've been searching high and low to find a list of SEO methods that will most likely lead to penalizing or even banning the site.
I myself as other newbies would like to be aware of them.
I know that there is plenty of information all over the net but i'd like to build a list of
10 DO NOTs for webmasters. i invite everyone to share their point.
p.s. please, don't go into refering too much, just give a statement. but all the help will be appreciated anyway.

    thank you :)

Be aware of who you are linking to. Don't just exchange links with anyone and everyone. If you are going to do a link exchange, the site should be related to your niche. Do a quick search to see if the site is listed in google and who they link to.

DO NOT change the adsense code, in any way. If you don't like it, change it at their website.

Well, one of the things that a lot of people do when it comes to SEO is keyword stuffing. And it's done without intention, just from willing to rank better they really harm your site.

An other one more easy to miss: if you know that you could do something more, do it. Don't ignore any small thing like titles in links, alt in images, etc. it's a real added value.

When you can use text instead of images, use it. Even if it makes you work a bit more.

do not over optimize which could be considered black hat. I have an article I am going to post on my site about this topic later today.

do not do too much link exchanging, you really do better with one way relevant links.

Do not try and hide any text on your site.

Do not try and cloak your site or any of its pages.

Duplicate content - Do not copy other content, might not get you banned but it should be known to anyone new that it is something you do not want to do when optimizing your site.

    My 3 cents.

No. This is NOT a problem, unless you submit material that's also on your site. That can get your content into the 'duplicate content filter'. But the link is still valid.

Don't make your title just a list of keywords ("Keyword A, KW B, KW C, KW D, KW E"). That's what will show up in a search engine results page, and the typical surfer will see that nonsensical title and just skip right over it without clicking. Keyword-stuffed titles may (not necessarily) get you higher in the SERPs, but so what? No savvy web surfer will click on those ridiculous-sounding, keyword-stuffed titles, so you'll get no traffic by doing that.

Ignore 90% of what you read in forums. most of its second hand knowlegde and is very outdated.

You won't understand the search engines properly unless you experiment yourself.

Do not buy any stupid money making ebooks promising 500 000$ in 2 weeks, this is BS and will distract you from the real work. ;)

ignore it at your own risk. As a wise man once said, 'it's good to learn from your mistakes, but its BETTER to learn from others' mistakes!'

some of these are real-life experiences and you wld do very well to heed them. Doesn't make sense to experiment it and get burnt when you don't need to

Only partly true. Individual experimentation can indeed be helpful and informative. However, many others have done their own experimenting and are willing to share the results in forums. The approach I recommend is to read forums like Digital Point at length. Over time you begin to recognize those who post accurate information — in other words, "trusted" posters. I and thousands of others have learned tons of helpful information from these trusted posters. Like many other things, there is often a mixture in the forums of "wheat and chaff". But don't throw out the wheat with the chaff!

"Ignore" is probably much too strong a word. Would be better to say "take it with a grain of salt"

As others have said above, if a person who has proven themself to be succesful with SEO gives you advice then you should listen. I say take note of everyone's advice - consider it and then make your own decisions.

don't pay much attention to keyword density. Don't pay $50 for a directory link...Purchase links that will also bring traffic to your site..

don't click on your adsense ads...don't ask your friends to click on yours ads....don't post here crying after you have been banned.....

bear in mind that you are optimizing a site because of the browsers,, and not just for search engines..
