    Well, you are correct not all of them are useless. But it is important to know which ones will work before you invest a lot of time into submitting to them. Using a tool like this one will tell you what your competitors (that is, the ones in the top 10 spots) are using http://www.webuildpages.com/tools/common-backlinks/. Probably not worth it to waste time on others unless they are specific to your industry though.

    By "link baiting", are you referring to putting a "link to us" page on your site? I was thinking about doing that to make it as easy as possible to do.

    You may also add social bookmarking as it provides FREE high PR inbound links.
    Directory submission is also a good source for one way links and targeted web traffic.

    I would strongly recommend that press release to be done at the later stage of link building, after your site is more established and known by many search engines bots. This is to ensure that your expensive quality press release gets the optimum result.

    Even though YouTube is a no follow, you place 50-60 video's on there, keep the description short and place your url in it, you'll still generate traffic. The vid's and keywords have to be good though.
