hey.. thought I share alittle trick I learned last year, my company owns a few hosting sites, mostly free image hosting, and we set each domain to have a master error file for when accounts are removed for whatever reason and there is images posted on the net, instead of showing a broken image it will show this no matter what you put in the url for the domains it will show that image.. (ie h**p://www.miamihost.net/iwishihadamilliondollars ) over the past couple of years we have had a total of 58,745 accounts made, talk about free advertisement LOL well, just thought I would share, don't beat me down to much
I ran a free host back around 1997, when it was not so cheap lol The 404's generated where amazing. Thousands upon thousands hourly. Monetizing that traffic was always a challenge, but possible.
I would say that you only put an error page with a link to your site only, not a flash type ad. This would seem to obtrusive to many people and I could see why you would get complaints. They would catch on right away that it was an ad. You would want it to be more subtle.
shouldn't you be looking at the unique visitors column? hits just represent the number of individual file loads
Being new to DP I don't understand how a thread could still be active if there were no posts for over 4 years??
