1 Week old website in google index

Hello, I started a new website on the 10th March06. Immediately I submitted the url to google and put up an xml file in google sitemap.
on the morning of 17th of march, To my pleasant surprise a single page of my new site was showing up in google search. I was very thrilled. By evening the number of pages went up to 16 and the site was placed No:2 for a particular keyword/phrase. Great...

But after a few hours, now the situation is : Only single page is showing in google when i use 'site:mydomain.com' and the Rank:2 of my keyword is now Rank:65 !.....

Why is it so, when this can be stabilised? Why this much change in this little time span?
Anything I can do to stabilise my site's position.. ?

You may have hit a different data center on your most recent query.

You've done everything right and you can see that Google has indexed and likes your site.

In the sitemaps section do the "verify" option and you'll get some good stats on the site from there - including crawl stats that give specific pages causing problems.

    Keep up the good work!

Dear Sarahk, thanks for your reply.
So by when i can see that good result, where my page was Ranked No:1 & 16 different pages are indexed by google. As I am adding 3-4 new pages everyday, anything specific I can do to my sitemap or SEO techniques - so that my pages are indexed fast?

One of my site which i launched on the last week of Dec 05 is yet to be seen by google. although i can see the google bot is visiting my site everyday. My Google sitemap is being downloaded over & over again. Yet......

MSN & Yahoo both indexed the above site.. Waiting for google to do so.. can i expect this to happen in the next 3 month?

Do all the standard SEO stuff here, keep the sitemap up to date, get the natural inbound links happening and wait. There's the sandbox to consider and your competitors.

Are you using www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords to track the SERPs?

It's easy. I did it just the other day
    • submit a google xml sitemap and use their verify tool
    • get a few key links from sites like DigitalPoint, prominent blogs etc
    Nothing else to it!

This is very common for newly indexed sites. Keep working on the site and it'll eventually climb back up.

Keep an eye on your allinanchor:keywords ranking. If the ranking's high, you know you're going in the right direction.

yep, thats my experience too. A newly indexed site can hit the top of the index, then it drops to 100-200, then it depends on what further SEO you do.

The best easiest and quickest way to get listed in google is to add a link to your new site from another of your sites that gets spidered quite frequently

    You can also get sandboxed.

Sure, but the point of this thread is to get indexed in the first place.

Rising in the SERPs and dealing with the sandbox is another issue altogether.

Same happened to me on one of my most profitable sites. I got indexed, shot up to #2 behind the actual site intended for the keyword and was getting bookoo traffic. I was running around screaming like Dave Chapelle (I'm rich biootch!). Then 2 days later I dropped to #65. :( Been slowly climbing ever since. Up to 40 now.

Sigh... why does Google hate me so?
