$100/day way, way, way, way, way, way, easier.

Think of all the time you will save just not having to visit all the other sites and maintain them.

I know because i have made both approaches work.

1 site @ $100... everything can vanish in an instant. 100 sites @ $1... you get some regularity of income.

I go for smaller easier to build and keep sites. 1.00 a day should be the minimum. if you take this approach keep in mind some sites will make much more than a buck a day. 3-5 grand a month isn't hard once the sites are all built. But, if youn try to build the same number of backlinks for each site that you would for larger sites you will be working endlessly on each site. Smaller sites require knowledge of SEO and keyword research. If done right and you use the right long tail keywords there isn't much you have to do for $1.00 a day per site.

I would focus on building 1 site that gets you your $100 a day and keep it maintained to keep getting you that money in the future.

I'd recommend 100 sites @ 1$, because sometimes you can even gain more if you have 100 sites. 1 site can anytime be in sandbox.

100 sites earn 1$ is better, although it cost more for domain costs.

but it save server cost. 100 sites earn 1$/day, you only need 2-3 shared host. but 1 site earn 100$/day, you need an expensive server.

Also, too risky if you only own 1 site

I agree, with the few sites theory. If the site does not make enough income then get rid of it. Rather focus your time and effort on the sites with income. Otherwise you will just stay busy. However if you want to build a bigger empire with 100's of sites, and they are all big earners, then that is a different story and thinking at a different level. Then you can employ people to manage it for you.

Google in fact have more than one website. Many of which you do not even know about. They are busy acquiring on2, they have youtube, they also have jaiku and many other sites. They are even getting into mobile phones now with their android service. They also provide alot of non search engine services like google docs, and versioning repositories for developers. What they do well is focus on one thing, get it done, and then get a team to manage it. In my opinion that is the way to go. After all, this is a business.

I depends on your chosen vehicle. I utilize both methods. Google Sniper in which I build lots of one page mini review sites that make small amounts but I have like 150 of them. On the other hand, I use the M.O.B.S. system to create more mini-authority WP sites (20 - 50 pages) that bring me the bigger bucks.

A lot of people, when they jump into this game, try to hit a home run right out of the gate. I suggest doing what YOU think is easier for you to implement at this time in your online business career.

    I would start with 1 site @ $100. Once i reach that with 1 site I would open 5 more. So that's $600 a day. :)

It's usually better to have multiple websites building your income on a daily basis. So if you started at 1 site making you $10/day, then you will try to make that 10 sites making you $10 each per day, and so on. This way you're not putting all your eggs in one basket and your other sites will help pick up the slack for the sites that are not performing as good.

    I hope that helps.

Start with 2-5 websites with relevant, quality content and figure out how to make them convert (and convert consistently), first. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, but more important... don't dilute your focus and try to build too many sites at once.

I think focus is more important than not putting all your eggs in one basket. In fact, just start with one site, get that right first. This is not a hit and run business. This is a real business and the same business principles apply than with any offline business. You will not open up 100 shops hoping to make $10 from each. You open up one, make sure it works, and then you put it on autopilot and then you can start your next business. Secondly it is even more important to open a site which you have a passion to operate, and focus on that, than to open sites on topics that you hate. In my case I always had successes with sites which I had passion operating, because the energy was there. I have started sites where I did not have passion, and the results were poor in those cases, yet other people achieved success in those areas.

Thirdly you should avoid at all costs to become the slave of your business. You can easily become the slave of a business if you live directly out of that business. I believe in a simple strategy to avoid this trap. I use my Internet income, buy real estate with that, and then live off the rental income generated by the real estate. If something happens to the Internet Business, then I will not get a panic attack. I will simply revive the business and go on with my life.

I like to enjoy life and get the most out of life, and not just by working on websites. That is not my purpose. But I guess everyone has a different purpose in life.

This is interesting.. as a newbie. I thought 1 site with lots of visitors would be great.. but when i realized the power of google . I needed to make more than one site.
1 site can get out ranked at anytime. Having 10 or more sites sound much nicer :)

Some times one site, that is big, can bring you twice more revenue than 100 sites together.

I like to have many sources of income. Not only by having different websites, but by dealing with quite a few affiliate networks, even different kind of incomes: PPC, sales commission, CPA...

It just make me feel safer. That way, if something EVER go wrong somewhere, I will still have many things going online. There are so many things that are not in our hands in this business, you better watch your back.

So yea, my answer would be: 10 sites x $10 loll! But yes honestly, when I first started "100 x $1" was my objective. But some websites will quickly do better than this, and that's the ones you want to develop more seriously.

1 big name is always good...some time you may need multiples areas to secure your position...So it totally depends which case it is.. Quality is always rewardful... china's quantity rule thing might not work in websites :)

I would also go for 1 site and do it very well. Quality and quantity should go together.
