1 site @ $100/day or 100 sites at $1/day? Whats your approach?

I think that I fall some where in the middle of this argument. 100 sites making only 1 dollar per day seems hardly worth the time and effort to make these sites anything more than just spam sites. $100 a day only comes out to about $3000 per month.

I have varied interests and am not a fan of creating big sites that are generally about everything. I think that is is much easier to sell one thing than it is to try to sell everything so I tend to try to create smaller niche sites that are much easier to get a good SERP for than big all encompassing sites.

I would prefer 5 to 10 sites that generate $20 to $30 per day.

If you can manage it then do it..But I guess it will end up in the desert. Concentrate on something. But if you really can do it and hire low paying people to update them..then why not.. hehe :D

    It's simple $100 from 1 site.

    I'd suggest making 10 sites that make 10$ a day :)

Probably somewhere around 5-8 sites would be the target for me.
This way you can work more or less on all websites and hopefully have 3-4 websites with a $100 per day ;)
Much better than 100 websites, or just one, which can drop in rankings for whatever reasons.

100 sites is almost like grey/black hat, because you cannot make 100 useful sites by yourself

I suggest doing whatever makes more money and you enjoy more

the whole "quality", "spam" issues are non-issues

The idea that making all your money from one site is somehow more "honorable" is stupid, if you count on search engine traffic, the more sites you have the less you get knocked by search engine updates

For me personally I build a lot of sites, because it seems to me the more sites I have the more money I make, and more things I try the more I learn.

For me its just about the money, mostly. Its fun to create good sites, but since my sites rely on SE rankings, and the search engines don't seem to care if they are quality or not, its sort of optional.

Try to get general subjects like... Design and make a website with lots of things about design ;) including photoshop and more... And of course, have more than just one website... Like when i start a new website i flood my other website with advertising for like 1 week, then visitors won't be so mad, and the other website will have the "starting" visitors ;)

I think it's better to manage 10 medium sites, than to manage 100 small sites nor 1 big site :)

if you can put the effort of creating one hundred sites into one, it would be more helpful. Anyway, even making 1 dollar from one site not cakewalk, so maintaining 100 would be difficult.

try 5 sites, and then go for 10. It's really up to you how many websites you want.

20 sites earning $10 per day is good enough for me.

Realistically, I would choose 1 $100/day site. But logically, it would be easir to increase the revenue of the smaller sites (even just marginally) to an average of $3-4 a day, where as increasing the revenue of your one large site might prove to be more difficult to get up to $300-400.

All in all, you should be making sites without revenue as a motivation. Many of the best sites out there weren't thinking of how much money they would be raking it today, but wanted to help other peoples live easier. Amazon, Yahoo, Google, Myspace; their products came from a desire to make something, and the popularity made these sites easy to monetize (and the users even SUPPORT the monetization in many cases)

As someone new to the industry while reading this thread I was thinking "How do they do it?" thanks for the info, now I don't feel I am wasting my time with one site.

I love this. People just outright assume that the sites people create, if it's 100's of sites, that they're spammy in nature.

Personally, I've started to create lots of sites. These sites are high quality, nice design, good ad placement and very SE friendly. They also have other ways of monetization too, not just Adsense.

Goal: I have a personal goal to be doing $2 a day per site. Reality, they'll probably do a lot more then that. More like $5-$10 a day per site with the non-traffic sites and high traffic (more broader topic) will generate...who knows.

Is it hard to manage tons of sites? Well, currently I have 6 with this VRE (Virtual Real Estate) structure and its been real easy. Each week, I update all the sites with a new piece of content. I have systems in place to get new content from other sources (no, I won't be sharing, but just think about it), as well as having users contribute content (not just forums or blogs).

You gotta have a system in place. It really isn't that difficult, but having a plan of attack is CRUCIAL in order to do it effeciently.

Exactly what kind of sites would one create and be able or have time to manage 100 of them? I can see 1 to 10 but 100?

I think it would be spam if the only purpose was to create adsense pages that offer nothing to viewers/readers.

However, If the site offers the reader something of quality then I don't think its fair to view it as spam - even if the main purpose is to create a revenue generating page.

    who cares if its spam?

    by manage you mean update?

A lot of my sites are just static, they have some info and thats it, forever. So its not very hard to "manage" them. Just have decent web host.
