    I have two options:

    - get a link from a PR4 homepage site
    - get sitewide links from 2 different PR3 homepage sites

    What would you choose?

Sitewide I would say, just think more pages more people will see it

One link from PR4 homepage...better from SEO point of view...sitewide links can be filtered by google as paid links...these days people are more interested in getting links from single pages...also 2 PR 3 homepage link > single PR4 homepage > 2 PR3 sitewide links ... But I'll like others to express their opinions too on this topic

Honestly, i wouldn't choose based on the PR numbers alone.

I would look at other factors (relevancy of the page/s, overall quality of the site, age of the site, outbound links, SERPs...etc) and then make a choice.
