#1 out of 484 Million

Wow. It can be done folks.

My site obviously needs a lot of work, and I'm sure it's getting a boost because of freshness....

But I hit the #1 spot out of 484 Million for the one word term: "weddings"

A couple of hours ago, I was at #3, and yesterday I was on page 3, so I doubt it will stick, but hey... I did it. I didn't think I could - and I obviously haven't done it on Yahoo or Google, but MSN is a start!

oh boy... now I've dropped to the #2 spot already! still... I'm very encouraged.

So far: 1194 for the term weddings this month. But like I said - this ranking is new as of a few hours ago and it's 12:46 am in california.

We'll see what it looks like this time tomorrow. Wordtracker says about 4000 a day, which would be about 40 times my current traffic :D - so it will be noticable.

The site itself is all of two weeks old. The domain has been owned for a while, with some "we're coming soon" type pages up since january. I opened up what I had to the public beginning of april-ish.

We should have a competition for "Microsoft" - 540M results :D Now it would be pretty funny to have a spot above MS on their own search engine!

    hah - "Micro soft" maybe

    Congrats nevetS!!

So many questions!! - How and what is this #1 spot traffic doing..?

Are they clicking throught the ads, funneling into your deeper pages..?

What are the success metrics for your site..? What is a successful visitor/conversion..?

Are they following through for you or what..?

Enquiring minds want to know! ;)

Boy... just getting started here... The site is all about information - nothing to sell for now (I do have some plans in the future for free / upgradable products). I have adsense up, but it's running pretty sad right now. (very low click-thru rate) - end users are averaging 10 page reads - which is about as high as I've seen on my web sites.

I'm really focusing on three things right now:
    1) building more quality content.
    2) two product releases planned for ASAP
    3) integrating vBulletin as a "comments handler" instead of the generic movable type one.

If this actually nets me 1000 visits tomorrow I would be astounded. Even 500 would be great. Hopefully the site has enough that people will say to themselves "that site has good info, I'll check back soon to see what they are up to"

I wish I had more of a plan in place for when something like this happened, but I really didn't think I'd be ranking for much at all for the next several months.

Well done Nevets. I also had number 13 for wedding planner on MSN. Maybe because of your links :)

apparently MSN doesn't pay much attention to googles pagerank :)

I've also never pointed any network co-op weight directly at the site. (I've pointed it to pages that link to it though)

I would have to agree with nevetS.

My SalesPractice.com site has been #1 at MSN for the terms "Sales" [540,212,234], "Sales Marketing" [433,900,826] and "Sales Training" [396,703,211] for the last couple of months and up until the last update (this week) was only a PR1.

Is it possible that this is not a targeted word. I wonder how many people really search fow wedding or if they are usually more specific and look for wedding planner, wedding dresses, wedding favors, etc.

Not trying to say this isn't am extrordinary accomplishment. But I find it hart to believe that a PR1 would get that high.

I don't know that very many sites at all target single keyword phrases.

There are countless sites with Weddings in the title, metatags, h1 text, inbound link text, etc. because anybody targetting anything weddings is at least inadvertantly competing with me.

It is hard to believe - especially since the site is only a couple of weeks old, but pagerank has very little to do with rankings even in the google world. There are plenty of PR7s buried in the serps where PR4s, 5s, and 6s sit at the top.

I've had plenty of experiences in the past where I've put a new page up and it ranked highly for a brief time and then got buried and eventually worked its way back up. I think this is one of those situations. That's happened with google though, I've never watched MSN while it happened.

I don't know about "Microsoft".. but I would definitely like to see some sort of competition :)

When I use to be a newbie would follow them with great interest.. The one SEbasic got hammered on for instance.

Let's pick a keyword and get a contest going.
