$1 Million Prize for Talented Code Developers: RecLab Prize on Overstock.com

Greetings to the Digital Point Forums...

We thought that perhaps some of you might be interested in an innovation competition we're running.

"If you liked the Netflix Prize, you might also like"... a chance to put some brains and algorithmic know-how towards a $1 million prize (and up to $250,000 for your school).

The Overstock.com RecLab Prize, a joint project of Overstock.com and RichRelevance, is an endeavor to encourage innovation in retail personalization. It kicked off in May 2011 and has since then attracted the efforts of over 100 teams and individuals from top research institutions around the world: MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Shanghai University, the Indian Statistical Institute, University College of London, Oxford University... Of course the list doesn't stop there and continues to grow. The RecLab Prize is continuing to accept submissions until March 1, 2012.

Maybe you've worked on recommendation engines before and have a few algorithms up your sleeve. Maybe you've written a few academic papers on collaborative filtering or data mining. Or perhaps you head a department where you're surrounded by people who are neck-deep in analytics and machine learning. Forward this on. The more competitors there are, the more interesting the contest.
