sounds weird i know. just wanted to share this with everyone that higher position in google doesn't always guarantee more sales. my review page had been ranking at #3 in google for my keyword for quite a long time. i only had 1 page in top 10 and it was converting like crazy. ok i found my niche i thought i want to dominate it. i made another site and managed to take over #1 with the old site and #4 with the new one. what happened then - my traffic doubled, my ctr went down by 25% and my sales halved lol what im doing now is waiting for someone to take over and push me back to where i was in serps (with no success yet) what it taught me is that in some niches where google's first page is dominated by review type of pages it's not always the best idea to be at the top as many people will more than likely want to see more reviews of the product before they buy. so, if you found a good converting spot - hold on to it or all your seo efforts may turn against you.
who said about all and every case? did you read my post? it was true in my niche and it will often happen in similar niches as well. and what do you mean by 'work hard and hard'? get a backlink from google's index page? lol
the thing is i didn't make any changes to the page itself and it was converting at 6-7% for me being at #3 spot in search results. i only built some backlinks to get to the top. i've been on the top for enough time now to be able to say with 100% guarantee that #1 position fu**ed up the convertion ratio in my case.
sorry dude, but I reakon there are other factors involved or you havn't collected enough data to be significant yet. just my 2c
Dude, your getting free traffic and making sales!!! Who cares what your converting % is just as long as it's converting?? If I knew how to get top positions in Google organics I would be one rich MO FO with a ton of websites!!
Good post - don't mind the jealous haters. It's a well documented fact that the number one spot in Google is not always the best spot. That's why it's important to do a lot of testing. Of course it's not easy to control what position you'll be in the serps. But you can control your position with adwords. If you have a product that you know is converting with natural searches of certain keywords, then it's a good idea to do some testing with adwords. You may find that it's well worth your investment.
That's nice. At least you're making sales. I hope you will continue to stay on that spot a little longer and gain more sales
cheers mate. i know i'm right in what i'm saying and i have my stats to prove. it amazes me how some people misread posts sometimes. you post something and people jump in with all sorts of advice like 'work harder' and so on, when i didn't even ask for one. i know what i'm doing and i'm not bitching about google or clickbank either. i just wanted to share my experience for people that get too obsessed with #1 position. It will double your profits in most cases, but it may also do the opposite in some. And i do test all my niches with adwords first before i launch my bum marketing stuff.
since everyone started complaining about the 'bad period' my sales have been growing every day, apart from a 3-day gap last week - but thats a different story. so no, my niche is not affected. that's what i thought as well. i've already got a couple of articles in the top 10
I'm not sure that position 5 or 6 will give you anything, unless the keyword is searched very often. Although, for average keywords (50-100 daily searches), #2-3 spots should be ok.
Good thread man. I think motivated buyers are more inclined to check out more search results. However, I am a little surprised your sales have actually declined!
While I agree at times this ranking can HURT you, as mentioned, people may want to review a site or two before making a purchase or call to action. However, I don't care what anyone says, you can't manipulate your site to rank for a certain position. It's just not controllable.
Yeah I'm No1 for one product and getting no bites, people are just holding on to their money more now!
All that matters is profit.. So if your profit went down, then yeah, you definitely have to do something about it. Maybe all you have to do is to take a bit different approach at your marketing. Who knows.
Some books said it... Internet Million Dollars said that too... but thankz 4 the info... it aslways helps to those that don't know or are novice. Good luck with your business!!
