There is a site ranking #1 for a competitive keyword which has done little SEO and is one year old. it only mentions the keyword ONCE in the entire site and it isn't in the domain. I have done a lot of SEo and i'm number six for it. I have the keyword in the title tag and many times in the copy. Yet this site seems to have ranked efortlessly. i'm starting to think that google gives certain sites a 'boost' for a few keywords after leaving he sandbox. I have noticed that I rank well for several keywords I did no SEO on after leaving the sandbox. On other keywords i'm on page 2 and 3.
Hi, I have also seen this in the past month. A site with a pr3 is ranking in 4th position for a competitive keyword !
Like trich said, what is the keyword? What is competitive in your mind might not actually be competitive. -Michael
Ok, well, if you don't feel like sharing the particulars this will be a very boring conversation, since know one can know whether what you're saying has any validity and everything would be random wild guesses. Enjoy the traffic. -Michael
I have an alike story: I promote I list of escort websites: One of the targeted keywords "Brazilian Escorts" - should show http://www.lilyfields.com top 10 Google. But instead I have http://www.citybutterflies.com there ranking 3rd even though I did not optimize CityButterflies for it
From your post I would imagine the site has some good links to it. Everyones view of 'competitive' and 'a lot of SEO' is different so its hard to comment further.
As onedollar said, maybe the number of links makes the difference, because as I saw, each page from these domains (/gallery/brazilian-escorts) have this keyword in the title and the H1 tag.
I wonder why Google values H1 so mauch even if there is no text after it... they should elaborate the algoritm a little bit... And I am getting down to writing some content at the page!
I get lots of traffic for the term "bar" from all three of the SE's. Yet I have never SEO'd for that word and it *MAY* show up in my site once or twice. I don't understand how the hell I'm ranking for it lol
I think that google does not value page text as much as it does to inbound links. How many links do you have pointing to that page and does it have the keyword in it?
Yes, I agree with most of the posters You should check out the backlinks of the mentioned sites before any conclusion.
