Hey guys,

Let me start by saying this first. I HATE Google. They've basically taken webmasters and just keep on hurting us.

Adsense bans alot of people and puts alot of people out of business.

Enough with that.

I have been quoted $50,000 for a custom search engine and adwords/adsense program for the site. I already have a site name, but I just need to come up with $50k.

I have thought of a pretty reasonable way. I am going to put up a 1 million dollar homepage on the website's domain name. For all of you that think its time for a change and or just want to advertise, the URL will be posted here in a few hours.

The ads you purchased will be kept forever at the website, so if the site gains any popularity what so ever, you're golden. I only need to sell 1/20th of the pixels to get the website up and running.

Do you have any plans on how you'll beat Google, or do you just want to launch another search engine and compete with Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask, etc for the joy of it?

 

Well If I sell all the pixel ads on the homepage for $1.00 each I'll have $100,000. Thus giving me a 50 thousand dollar marketing budget to begin with. I will also be gaining money from the ad network that the site will have (a more forgiving ad network ). The sites that we will index are also going to be hand filtered so spam wont get in (if it does, it wont be that easy).

So at the beginning stages, we arent going to compete directly with google. By next year sometime I hope to be right up there with them.

Also trying to see if I can purcahse a superbowl ad space, which would be completely unbelievable!!!

That sounds simple, but in reality, I bet it would be easier to get an investor. (Not that that would be easy.)

Yea, I tried investors. Didnt quite work out. Thats why I am trying to get small donations from tons of people.

And yes, superbowl ads are millionas of dollars, but the millions of dollars are weel spent

If you use PayPal, they will be taking 35 cents or so out of each $1. $50,000 would come out to about $32k then what about taxes out of that amount? If you were fortunate enough to sell 50,000 pixels you would probably net less than 20K

Just some additional thoughts on the matter.

 

Maybe you could start a small site like "Google Is The Next Hitler" or something that catches attention. Have a petition and other neat stuff and say you're taking back control from this search engine tyrant.

If it's good linkbait and gets on Digg, it could convince people to support it.

Also, take a tip from the "Buy me a beer plugin" and don't have people make donations or buy pixels. Maybe have them 'buy bricks' that will help build your virtual powerhouse.

Having a business plan in hand, and presenting it to the right people (prosper.com?) could get you exactly what you're looking for.

Sounds pretty ambitious but anymore you've got to already have some sort of product up and running before many investors will pay attention. Ideas are great, but it's still just an idea until it exists. Good Luck!

 

Beating google is a hard job for an established high-end corporation like yahoo ! or even msn ..
And hey , if you get your script or site up and running after making the $50,000 then it doesn't mean you will go side by side with google hence youtube script is now sold for a buck does that mean that everyone can beat youtube now ?! I hope you get the point but good luck anyway

I think you need to make site and send out a press relase. Asking in a forum will not get you the money you need. You need to havesomething finished and maybe somone buy you out

 

You won't get much advertisers with a "forgiving" ads network
