Due to historical way i built up my websites and also for ecommerce exit reasons i have ended up with what is i beleive in effect 3 homepages

    index.html
    index.asp
    shopcontent.asp?type=home

All different , an people arrive at each for different reasons , and each page is completely different although i will have to double check they look different to SEs

The server has been set to default to index.asp from anybody appearing from non specific url search engines results but the other 2 home pages are also out there in the search engines and hve been for many years

So will i BE HARMED with so many "home" pages or should i put some effort into reducing to one page

    Any thoughts appreciated

    PAUL

Presuming that all three pages lead to the same destination (such as your site's home page), then yes, you will. Pick one and 301 redirect the others to it.

Actually You do not have tree homepages.
You have tree different pages and one, but just one of them can be a homepage :), not two or tree, because that is the rule of the Internet.
Where does browser leads you when You enter only your domain name (yourdomain.com) without anything more, that is your homepage (it means that is setup as Your homepage), another two are just orphan pages :), but as submitted to to search engines before they are still showing up !
