1 advert or 2?

Would like some feedback on a project I have just been given.

A company who produce widgets are currently promoting their service on Google AdWords, the process requires a personal visit to gather info and a second visit to service the customer.

They have created a competitor who are cheaper as they do not require an initial personal visit and provide a slightly different widget design that costs less.

Both need to be promoted via AdWords within a market place that only has 12-18 advertisers. Would you let both compete against each other or regionalise the campaigns to eliminate the two competing against each other?

My initial thoughts are to stick them both together and double the chances of being selected.

just remember that 1 person can only buy from one company, so if you create 2 companies you are doubling costs for the same 1 sale.

In most cases this solution fails, but I have seen some campaigns that do it successfully.

if you run 2 campaigns, then use different set of keywords. using same KW for 2 campaigns will make you compete with your other ad which will increase the bid cost.

I suppose a better question would be would you prefer to double your presence on SERP's and with PPC you only pay for the click so dispite the potencial to increase the avg CPC you get this for a simular cost.
