Is this normal? My average position is 3rd.

This is my first campaign and I'm playing with $50/mo just to see what comes of it.

Let me know if you need any other information if it'll help you help me :D

It depends on what your ad creative is.

It depends on what keywords you're bidding on.

Both will be relevant to your searchers habits, and the one may not be relevant to the other!

e.g. bidding on 'free download' will get lots of impressions, but having 'Only $199 to download' in your ad creative text will never get that ad clicked because the searcher has been primed to expect a 'free download' of whatever it is they want. Result = lots of impressions, 0 clicks :(

If you want to PM me with exact ad/keyword details (or post here in public if you're happy for everyone to see) then I'll give you some more specific advice.

    Cheers

It's about targetting people with your advert. It's better to have a few clicks to an advert which is more relevent and detailed than dozens or hundreds of clicks to an advert which is incomplete or irrelevent or misleading as this is a complete waste.

If you can get people clicking your adverts which are 'complete' in that they don't withhold anything likely to become a stumbling block to your ultimate objectives, ie: sales, subscriptions, then you have achieved getting them to the page, and it is likely that they were genuinely interested in your advertisement and the sales patter let you down.

It sometimes takes a great deal of thought over which keywords you are targetting, and also a good look at any fresh angles you can offer a product/service from.

    Good luck with it anyway.

1.5 Days, 460 Impressions, Zero Clicks... Completely normal. Depending on your website, who it is targeting and how your placement looks that could be completely normal. What is the website?

I'd rather not make the url public, but thanks for the replies.

I've read the adwords guide on writing effective ads and I'm pretty sure they follow the guidelines, well.

    Perhaps I'll just be patient - it's only been 1.5 days :)

As for the keywords, I have 16 keyphrases defined and they're all relvent to the contents of my ads. I have 3 seperate ads all associated with those keyphrases. Should I create more ads or stick with with the three I have?

Just wait a few days more. Sometimes it takes time to get your ads displayed on the right web sites.
Add some additional key phrases and a few text ads more and play with the wording.

Absolutely right ... but it's also important NOT to show your Ad to people who are NEVER going to click i.e poor match between the search that's been made and the resulting creative that's displayed (with even a *poor* ad creative text I'd expect more than 0 clicks out of 400+ impressions ... if there's 1 click pretty soon then that's a 0.25% CTR, totally unacceptable!)

You have to target the correct keywords, and make that relevant to the ad text that's been shown. You don't need to add more text ads, you don't need to add more keywords, you just have to make it relevant for the searchers ... (I feel a new blog entry coming on ...)

Plus add in those negative keywords to bump the CTR up even higher ... you'll avoid all those un-wanted impressions and get some better quality clicks too.

    1,499 impressions, 5 clicks :)

Ok - as I said, I've had the account for going on 2 days now, so this is probably a dumb question, but what exactly is a 'negative keyword' ?

Lets say it's for the ringtone industry - what would a negative keyword be?
