1&1 terminated my account - how to get domain back

    Hi,

So 1&1 terminated my account for not paying a hosting package. A few days ago I told them I don't want to pay, they said I should just cancel and it'll be fine...Today I get the e-mail that it's terminated. I still have a domain at them that I've been working on for over 2 years and can't lose it. Has anyone ever had this before?

I thought i could transfer it to Hostgator, but I can't login into the account. So you think I can pay whatever I have to pay ($40) and my account will be back? What happens with the domain if I don't make it? Will it expire, will all of the juice go away, could I buy it from Hostgator then?

I managed to log into the account and am transferring the domain to Hostgator (wonderful support, been hosting with them for a few months).

So my advice is - don't go to 1&1. I've read countless rants about them, but just thought that it's not going to happen to me. Well it did, and I risked my entire business online. Last year I paid $41 for a host + domain, when I was just checking if a domain is available (I bought a domain for $7 some time before that). I found out about that later, because I didnt even know that could happen. A few days ago, almost 1 year later, they say I need to pay again. So I decided to cancel the package because I don't need it, and they talk to me, saying it'll all be good. Great, but then I get the same PDF saying I must pay $41, which is now twice, or $82 for something I never ordered. It's been 3 days later and they have been ignoring me. Today I receive an e-mail my account has been terminated and all domains have been set to expire.

Luckily I managed to log into the account, unlocked it and am waiting for the transfer. Thanks to both who sent me a PM!

basically, it's good idea to keep domain registration and hosting separately.

I bought 1&1 1 year ago, hosted on blogspot, then moved to HG but didn't transfer.

Looks like 1&1 isn't that nasty after all! They sent me $32 back, which is not the total amount of money they've silently taken, but it is enough for me!

Don't go with 1&1 again. Hostgator is fine.
