    Wow man that's amazing...

First I thought the title read $0.27 sold for $100,000.

I think Some company's name might be 027, and so they might have bought it. Any details about it?

I am puzzled as to what is so special about this number... that it has attracted so much value?

I guess... some deals are just crazy or perhaps I am ignorant about lot many flourishing ideas!

Because they are rare. There are only 1,000 possible combinations for NNN.com names & NNN are popular especially for Asian countries. 163.com comes to mind of a developed site, among others.

That is definitely too much for a NNN.com
Maybe the buyer was an enduser.

Chinese characters are not rendered natively by web browsers. Instead, if you're running a Chinese language system, it uses Latin characters that code the Chinese characters that are then read out by the web browser.

The newer system implemented by ICANN actually allows non-Latin characters. But, I don't believe it's being broadly used.

I agree, I'm not sure why people pay this much either?? It sounds like an auction to buy a particular domain name that has so little value, unless I've mistaken how much it is worth??
