$.01 eBay comission on $249.99 item? WTF?!?!

Discussion in 'Commission Junction' started by HaltingPoint, Feb 18, 2008.

I just got a sale of an item that's listed at $249.99, yet CJ is listing eBay's cut as $.02 and my cut of that as $.01. WTF?!

I had several other items of various sale prices give me commissions that were varying percentages of the commission rate (50% of eBays cut). Now I know with the new fee structure its confusing as hell determine in a straight way what your commission would be, and i'm not expecting to make a killing with this one site, but seriously...$.01 on a $249.99 item?!

I sent a note through their support form but I doubt i'll ever get a response. Does anybody have a direct email over there that I can reach an affiliate manager at? This is bullshit.

Anybody else experienced anything like this?

WOW just 100 million more sales and you can retire. This does not make sense. This is one of the reason I use multiple streams of income on each BANS site..or any site for that matter.

multiple streams is a solid idea, nature of the business ebay doesn't always get huge fee's - e.g. I am fairly sure "list for 1p days" dont make them much money...maybe just 1 unlucky transaction?

    1) The new fee structure doesn't start until February 20th.

    2) Regarding oddball commissions, you're not alone: Wacky Commissions (from eBay Affiliates Forum)

Thanks for everybody who gave helpful answers. I'll try giving them a call and I'll look at that forum note.

I'm not sure if its a classifieds item or not...how do I check that?

For everybody else--I'm not an idiot, I know multiple streams of revenue is the way to go, and this is not the only way i'm monetizing the site, nor is it the only site I have.

And here's another load of bullshit. So I posted to that forum thread about the Wacky commissions, and eBay says I can only make 9 more forum posts until I get a rating of 10+ with them. This means I either have to buy or sell stuff and get feedback with eBay in order to post questions ON THEIR AFFILIATE FORUM.

So its not enough for me to actually drive traffic and sales through their site (which they rip me off on). I also have to use their service to be able to post and try to get the attention of their affiliate managers who never respond to anybody?

What new fee structure? Is this published somewhere?

Sorry, I must have misunderstood. You mean fees to sellers and not the affiliate commission structure.

I believe you get 10 PER DAY. If your rating is 10+, then you get unlimited.

Correct. It's new fee pricing to sellers. I received an email about it and basic insertion is lower but I forget the rest of the details. The new pricing structure should go live around midnight or sometime tomorrow.

I just got it too. A 0.02 commission on a $100 sale. My only hope is that they had some sort of penny listing day. Too bad they dont have an affiliate manager that could sort this out.

Since our commissions are based primarily on final value fees which are increasing substantially, in theory, our commissions should increase as well. That said, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see some sort of creative accounting introduced to commission calculations. I'll betcha there are some in eBay management who feel affiliates are over incentivized as it is. It would not be a stretch to see some formal "adjustments" soon to the commission structure to help support the need of eBay to please it's shareholders.
