My new site gets absolutely no searches from google. It got a few the first day then nothing since then (2 weeks).

It is a unique site with lots of good content, but in a very competetive niche.

Is this some kind of sandbox or what? Is should expect a few long tail searches at least?

sometimes new site turn to rank higher than they should. But when things settle it goes to its normal position. Just keep on SEO ing. Things will be fine soon. You said it is a competitive niche, so it is kind of normal.

Make sure you are still in their index. If you are there then just optimize as much as possible wit h backlinks.

Individual pages take a long time to get indexed anyway. You said you are in a competitive niche and that could be the reason you have low traffic. Google likes to put newer sites high in the search results in the beginning and than it drops fast. Good SEO, over time will lead your site higher. Start working on back links, social bookmarking, pinging, link exchanges....etc. SEO takes several months to pay off.

Have you submitted a sitemap? Obtained some backlinks on quality related web sites? Do those things and you should see it crawled fairly quickly.

I have done all those things.

I have 35 pages indexed in google, yet I rank nowhere for even unique phrases on my keyword.

I got 3 searches in google the first day then GONE.

This leads me to believe google has given me some kind of anti-spam filter or probation period because of the niche.

My site is good, there is nothing wrong with it and I havent been using any blackhat at all.

    then you're sandboxed.
Sandbox = indexed pages but no return in serps.
    Normal for a new site.
