    I have a new site - sportsnewsnightly.com

Here are the current adsense stats
    8,399 impressions
    17 clicks
    $9.57 earnings
    0.20% CTR

How can I improve this? The ads aren't in that bad of spots, are they? Thanks

You have a very attractive site there. Unfortunately, I don't think this kind of site will ever make a lot of money with adsense. Your visitors probably stop at your site just long enough to read the headlines and leave. What is your bounce rate?

Here are a couple of suggestions to get you started.

    1. Adsense placement

According to heat map studies these 2 spots are prime above the fold areas for adsense placement. I would lose the photo and place a large adsense block right there.

    2. It's really important to make good use of the above the fold real estate. Your header is taking up a lot of space and contributes little to the page. I would reduce the size of your logo and header. Here is a good example from the ESPN website.

You see also they have 2 ads above the fold. I thinks it's interesting to note they are using graphic banners. I suppose since you also have a graphics intensive site you might try graphic ads instead of text ads.

    3. You have a leader board at the bottom of the article on this page. I would move it to the middle of the page.

These suggestions should help to improve your CTR. Let me know if they work.

Sometimes it may be the keywords too. The spiders may pickup the wrong keywords due to the strong irrelevant word densities. that is why people may not click.

Try to integrate amazon affiliate ads - in sports they may work better then adsense

for example you can present your visitors there favorite team merchandise

and try this ad placement I worked out for your website:

One of those ads is a custom premium publisher size - I'd love to be able to put ads that size on all my sites but alas, I'm not a premium publisher.

Quite good earning but low CTR! I am sure that you can make more money if you can find the problem. let's start with new position of ads on the same themes. If it still not work, why not try to find a new theme where you can place adsense in the most visible place!

Dude, why you place your ads on the right bottom of the mainpage? You need to place them at a more spoted place, like header and sidebar part.

Sometimes some niches and sites are lost causes. But as the first replier suggested you should play with your ad placement.

Your ads just aren't visible enough considering your site layout now. You've got to move them above the fold, and you need to embed vertical text ads within articles. This will increase your CTR dramatically!
