Well actually I think they could survive. Smaller leaner etc but they would not go away. I think they have the ability to scale their costs fairly quickly to respond to such a revenue lose, (drop staff, close data centers, limit R&D) not to mention the money in the bank to hold them over. Happy about it? No, but they would still be around. IMHO If I were an adWords customer I would consider throwing in low ball .01 bids. If my competitors have limits set on their accounts there might be days when mine is the highest, or only bid, and I can pick up clicks cheaply on those days. Not sure if G allows it but I would consider putting dozens of these low ball bids in on words to an affiliate site. It can be hard to get an affiliate site ranked well so adWords, if cheap enough, would be a good way to get traffic. From my side as a publisher I am starting to get a feel for the trends. I'll be getting my buck or a two a click and then one day (or part of a day) they are all $0.01-$0.10. There seems to be monthly and seasonal trends. My best site makes almost nothing in the summer (25% of normal or less). So I picked up a site that had high summer traffic to help smooth it out. It worked fairly well actually.
"kill" was intended to mean it would "kill" the Google we know today. Most likely it would not shut them down, but it would severely change the face of Google. That's doable...just keep in mind that 0.01 bids will get you limited to no exposure on the content network...hard to split a penny
Google doesn't really allow you to do this. They have what they call "Quality Based Minimum Bids". So you can't just put in all the $0.01 bids you want and hope that they might show some day. The keywords get disabled if they aren't showing.
I agree. I did much better in August (summer travel period) than current September. Although towards the end of this Sept, it seems that my travel-related site eCPM does edge higher a little bit.
How do you guys know the details of each click? I can only see the number of clicks per day and the total amount earned!
