    “It is FINISHED.”
    [PAID IN FULL!!!]

    It is written: “When JESUS therefore had received the vinegar, he said, ‘It is finished’: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
    One of the most awesome statements by GOD, in all of Scripture. Having been unlawfully apprehended and tried, beaten and whipped beyond recognition, mocked, tortured, and finally Crucified, JESUS CHRIST, having become “sin for us”, is just about ready to experience the Physically death that was so deservedly ours. HE became “sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of GOD in HIM…(2Cor. 5:21)”. It is in the midst of all this, JESUS knowing that everything necessary for the Redemption of mankind has been accomplished, yells out as one would in a hard fought victory: “It is finished.” GOD has taken everything that was against you and me and nailed it to the Cross of JESUS CHRIST;
    Ergo, our SIN DEBT, has been and is PAID IN FULL! The Greek word for “finished” is teleo (tel-eh-‘o), meaning: to bring to a close, to finish, to end, passed, finished; to perform, execute, complete, fulfill, (so that the thing done corresponds to what has been said, the order, command etc.); with special reference to the subject matter, to carry out the contents of a command; with reference also to the form, to do just as commanded, and generally involving the notion of time, to perform the last act which completes a process, to accomplish, fulfill; to pay of tribute.
    The essence of what JESUS says here, can really be appreciated when we delve into what HE DID NOT SAY:
    1. ‘I have just provided you with one of many ways to get into The Kingdom of Heaven.’
    2. ‘This plus the Religion that you practice, and your membership and active participation in a Church will insure you that you get into heaven.’
    3. ‘This plus your ability to keep the Ten Commandments, and to be better than your neighbor or somebody else will guarantee you a place in The Kingdom of Heaven.’
    None of these things were hanging on the Cross with JESUS CHRIST, in fact HE doesn’t need our “chump change” in order to Save us. . .just our TOTAL SURRENDER to HIS LORDSHIP!
