“Crawled, currently not indexed” pages - what does this status mean and how can it be fixed?

Hi. I'm sure many of you have come across deindexed pages marked as “Crawled, currently not indexed” in GSC. If we're talking about technical or auxiliary pages like feed pages, pagination, internal search results, archive pages, etc. - there's nothing to worry about. These pages aren't meant to be indexed anyway.

But if Google assigns the “Crawled, currently not indexed” status to actual content pages (like blog posts) - then things get more serious. And if there are dozens or even hundreds of such deindexed pages, it can be an early symptom of much deeper problems that may eventually result in a collapse of the website’s overall organic traffic.

How to assess the level of risk and fix “Crawled, currently not indexed” - I’ve explained it all in my guide: What is “Crawled, currently not indexed”, how to fix it, and why can it be an early warning sign of issues with your site? Happy to discuss this important topic in this thread.

The "Crawled – Currently Not Indexed" status means Google has visited your page but decided not to include it in the search index yet. This usually happens because:

    • The content is thin or low quality

    • The page is very similar to others (duplicate content)

    • Technical issues like noindex tags or slow loading

    • Not enough internal links pointing to the page
    To fix it:

    1. Use Google Search Console’s URL inspection tool to check the page.

    2. Improve and add unique, valuable content.

    3. Add internal links from relevant pages on your site.

    4. Request indexing manually if the page is important.
Remember, Google prioritizes pages with good content and relevance, so focus on quality and user value.

Oh, this one hits close to home) Especially when you see perfectly fine pages just sitting there unindexed and you’ve got no clue why. Thanks for the guide — I’ll check it out, maybe I’ll find some clues, because I’ve also got a bunch of those pages and traffic’s been acting weird lately

Thanks for the guide - clear, practical, and dead-on. You’re right, this is 99% content and structure, not tech. Appreciate you breaking it down. Solid thread starter.

When you say "a lot" what percentage isn't indexed? When I search site:longjohnsilversmenu.us I get 4 google pages that show indexed content:

Try applying to your website what’s recommended in this article. It might solve your page indexing issue. At the very least, you’ll find out why it’s happening.
