Three million people will flock to Washington DC soon to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama, who will become America's 44th President.

Obama will take his Presidential oath at 12 noon local time, and will be the first black leader in the country's history. The inauguration party will be the biggest of all time and is costing $150 million!

Do you think will he bring peace and better relationship to the nation and other countries as he become a president?

Obama already expressed his desire to tackle economic repair of America, that's the best
he can do in the forefront. With economic recovery, all other aspects of society will
    eventually fall in proper perspectives.

I like to believe the gradual easing out of Israel's aggression against Palestine is initial
manifestation of Obama's resolve to put a stop to all wars around the globe where the
U.S. ideally should not have been involved in the first place. But, the big question is,
can America still bounce back from its present downtrodden status to yet become the
superpower that it had always been, and continue to play the role of an international
peacekeeping force and maintain planetary balance of power?

No because contrary to popular belief America is not the centre of the world, nor is it responsible for all the world's problems. I don't see how America can solve Darfur, Kashmir, Chechnya, Tibet or Israel/Palestine.

No thanks, we Americans still know the difference between right and wrong. We will not stay neutral.

You certainly don't start fixing things by spending 150 million. I don't know how accurate that quote is though.

Knowing what is right and what is wrong is basic, and I'm sure every American
gets a perfect on that. Neither will America have to be neutral, it can
always take side on issues, especially those which affect the American
people. But to fight other peoples' wars, a lot of justifying should be in order, and only on valid grounds, both locally for Americans, and internationally in
relation with the rest of the world.

Well, from what I'm seen and read, at least he will be listened to and has generated a lot of interest and well-wishes from people all around the globe. He has captured the attention of millions already and he hasn't taken the oath yet! Also he at least has a fresh start, is well-spoken and intellegent--a far cry from the current administration. As to whether or not he can bring peace to the world-that's a pretty general and broad expectation. Let's just give the guy a chance. I wish him and his administration all the best!
I for one wish I could be in DC to witness the event in person, but cannot, so I will have a front row seat on my couch. :p

Obama is going to serve his special interest just as so many presidents have done before him. Reagan was heavily vested into Foreign Steel and suddenly we were building weapons and selling them to the middle east. Bush senior was into big oil, and during his administration gas prices rose sharper than ever. The Clinton's had tons of properties and when did the housing market start to boom? GWB followed in Daddy's steps and what happened to the price of a gallon of gas during his admin? Now we have someone who is invested heavily into alternative energy companies and limited technology companies such as Acorn, so let's all lay down bets where his focus is going to be.

Gee, I hope you're right.:D Not sure what you mean by "Acorn"...are you still on about community activists or is this a different Acorn? There's a webhost in Oregon by that name, with a heavy emphasis on NPO sites.

As to the OP, I once believed that Obama would be the Peace President, but it's clear that he intends to continue some aspects of the "War on Terror". He has indicated a pro-Israel stance which may bias the US role in negotiating peace in Palestine. The recent invasion of Gaza was neatly concluded in time for the festivities, so we won't see how he handles such crises, but I am fairly upset with the choice of Rahm Emmanuel for COS. This sends a signal that Israel continues to be inviolate. We'll hear no strong condemnations of future actions.

I look forward to protesting the policies of a President I support and regard as legitimate. Bush has been downright frightening for peace activists.

Wars happened long before the USA even existed and will still happen long after it is gone.

He's off to a good start:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1198928

    He's winning me over again.

Of course no one policy or administration can bring peace to the world. Absolute peace is impossible as long as any two groups disagree. But I voted yes because I think he will bring a great measure of peace compared to th current situation. He will leave a more peaceful America than he found.
And he intends to lead the world in that direction.

    I can't help myself, I <3 Obama!

I'd like to see all the morons who think Obama is the messiah to bring peace to all parts of the world. Let him try to do it in Gaza, Jamaica, Colombia, Russia, Indonesia.

I voted no. I am a huge supporter of President Obama. But I think some are setting unrealistic expectations. He is not a miracle worker and sadly it would take a miracle to really bring peace to the entire world.

Hopefully things can improve significantly in the next 8 years, and I believe they will.

No he wont' bring peace to the world. In fact, nobody can bring peace to the world. Not even if you tried. Arab extremists will continue to blow people up and you will always have a disturbance in the middle east.

The only way peace can become is if people grow up and learn that there is no right or wrong religion and that nobody is better than another person.
