CopyScape is the best tool to sniff duplicate copies, but what about Google bots? Are they more fussy ?

Search for individual lines of text or sentences using quotes around it.

exactly. all copyscape does is run searches with content from your website.

They aren't doing anything other than maybe taking the work off you. you can copy content and search google the same way. they're just using the API to do the searching.

Don't forget to check Yahoo and MSN for content duplicates of your site.

*You may also find that some sites might rank for different quoted sentances from your site. So do a search with a few chunks of text.
