Supplemental Results Removed, all of them.

Google announced that they are removing the tag.

This does two things as far as I can tell.

1) Removes a valuable tool for those who knew how to read the tea leaves in evaluating a sites condition.

2) Frees up the rest of the web universe to stop worrying about it and start working on other things.

The question I have is whether the good of #2 outweighs the loss of #1.

P.S. No I haven't seen any sign of PageRank updated

Yeah, just noticed that some of my sites with thousands of pages in supplemental index has gone mainstream

but still the supplemental results can be seen with the defined query string...
Just the fear of so many supplemental pages will go a bit low.

not much has changed...supplemental wasn't something to be scared of. I still got traffic to pages that were labeled supplemental

 

Just because the label "supplemental result" is removed doesn't mean they haven't stopped considering it as a factor in the ranking.

 

People just didnt understand the real meaning of supplemental. Now since google has stopped labeling it doesnt mean supplementals wont be there.

Supplemental were always shown as RESULTS in SERPs when you are search for a specific keyword. Supplementals can rank higher if it has that specific keyword. But people always argued that supplementals are useless.

Thank god google finally announced the real meaning of supplemental to everyone. Check some old threads about people discussing supplemental as uselss pages which they were are not were never before.

Yeah, when I checked my results I knew something was wrong. As far as getting traffic to supplemental pages, the amount I get is fractions of a fraction vs regularly indexed pages.

Now instead of getting results out of supplementals, we can focus on building links to inner pages that don't rank well. I can only imagine what would happen if they stopped displaying page rank.

Ignorance can be bliss sometimes.

 

I think this is a good thing if it will stop people trying to game the system and make them work on better pages and better links instead.

Even though they removed the tags, i guess the algorithm still takes it into consideration. And even if it doesn't, it's better not to make your pages approach that moving sands area.

 

I think that is good thing. It will make the new websites with good content rank higher on Google.

 

Supplementals whether good, bad or irrelevant can be changed if content
is maximized and new info added daily whether by rss feeds or blog and or
articles depicting relevance of topic at hand.

You're assuming that all pages will be listed in mainstream SERPs. I doubt that will be the case. I can't see sites with duplicate content being ranked in mainstream SERPs. Google will penalize it somehow. Either by not indexing them or giving them poor SERP ranking. At least with supplemental tag you knew there was something wrong with the page and could work on fixing it. So I don't think it's good news. More a matter of wait and see what penalty google will use in place of supplementals.

 

I firmly believe that to be a correct assumption...

why would they have come up with supps then just say...

I couldn't agree more, simply removing the tag is just taking away a measure we can use to optimize our whole sites and fix problematic pages and site structures.

Yeah sure, we can look at stats to see what pages arn't performing in SERP's and tweak them to obtain higher optimization levels but the supplemental tag was actually good.

I really don't think Google is going to roll those Supp pages over in to the one index, and even if it does these old Supp pages will be so deep in the SERP's it's hardly a bonus having the Supp tag removed.

 

maybe that is why they've been holding on a PR update. either way, i think its one less thing to know, one less thing to worry about.
