The First YPN Improvement #1

So I just noticed today (no idea how long it's been this way) that YPN has improved one aspect of their ad delivery -- ads no longer repeat ad nauseam across your ad blocks on a given page. Before, depending on how many ad blocks you had on a given page, the same ad that showed up in the #1 ad queue position would show up in all the #1 ad queue position of all your ad blocks on that page. Not anymore. I'm no longer seeing repeated ads across the ad blocks.

    How you like them apples?

EDIT: Nevermind, guys. I just checked my site an hour later after making the thread -- yup, the ads are repeating themselves once more. LMAO. I guess they're "working on it" still.

Hehehe! I just didn't think they had enough advertisers. I knew something was fishy there. Hehehe, good looking out. Later.

I'm also seeing the same thing. ad blocks are no longer repeating advertisers. this might be a good thing if there were enough advertisers to fill in those ad blocks. instead, i have 1 targetted ad block and another ad block that has absolutely nothing to do with my site. i have also noticed a drop in ctr as a result. it also seems that the first ad blocks are getting the targetted advertisers with the fillers coming in afterwards. even after several refreshes this is holding. personally, i didnt mind the repeated ad blocks as it usually meant the highest paying advertisers were being repeated. now, the untargetted ad blocks make my sites look spammy and unrelated. might be time to redesign my battle tested layouts for this new ypn phenomenon before it becomes permanent.

i remember a poll regarding this. i guess they didnt like my answer - relevance is more important than unique ad blocks. you only need 1 ad block to make money, but it needs to be targetted to maximize on it.

I noticed this improving for the past week. It seems to be doing really well though. Looks like they are making their way out of the beta one step at a time.

I have actually been noticing this for a while on my blog...I can only display one format of ads, and I have noticed that sometimes they are different, sometimes the same.

Bottom line is that it seems as if YPN's ads are no longer repeating themselves all the time. Which in my book is a mark improvement for YPN. Such as it is. But then again, I suppose we should all be happy they're making some progress. :)

I've seen the same on my website.
I have 2 blocks on page (leaderboard and leftrail), and ads are no more repeated, but on the leaderboard there is no relevancy.
    It's a good improvement anyway.

I'm noticing more and more geotargeted ads, and no repeating ads too. Unfortunately CTR is still embarrassingly low...

Yeah, things seem to improving slightly. I don't notice as many duplicate ads. However my CTR is still at rock bottom since Jan 15. (I haven't changed anything on my sites to warrant that CTR drop.)

I am having the same problem. I contacted Yahoo recently to ask them about this. They said they fixed it, however, my ad targeting is also very poor.

Good find, I just checked one of my site.

    www.z6s.com

has 3 bocks of 5 ads each and they are showing 15 different ads.

    Which is very good improvement.

    Thanks

    Hey Guys,

One of our product managers, Amit Paunikar, wrote up a short post about this issue on the YPN Blog today. The skinny is that, yes, we have just launched an enhancement that will reduce the number of "dupes" and improve the number of unique ads on your sites. Amit says it well, so I'll refer to his post:

"In response to your concerns, we recently did some fine tuning. Today, we're pleased to announce the launch of an enhancement that should improve the number of unique ads shown on pages with more than one ad unit. This enhancement applies to all types of ads, but impacts only our self-service publishers (i.e., most of you). If the live enhancement follows our research model, we anticipate that, in the long run, publishers may be rewarded with higher click-through-rates (CTR)."
