I wrote out this big long explanation a few months ago but now I can;t find it. Really annoying me.

The most important point I raised is do you really want to actually buy the servers? Leasing them is usually a better method as 1) You may get out of managing them and 2) you don;t have to worry about the hardware costs when replacement is necessary, 3) you don;t have to worry about uplinks, and 4) if you;re having to ask that question, chances are you don't know a whole lot about running a box on the net.

If you want to go the "purchase the box" route, see if there's a local datacenter where you live and ask the onsite techs who they recommend. I use a retired IBM tech who lives in Atlanta who my local techs recommended. The guy knows what he's doing. I'm paying about twice what one normally buys a half decent box for off the rack but he uses top of the line parts and rarely do I have down time.

If you;re just getting started, a simple VPS may be best. Give a look over at http://lowendbox.com and see what you can find. Be cheaper anyway and you can decide if it's worth it.

Don;t expect to do well over night. I've already taken over 3 hosts this year who no longer wanted to run a company and they had less than a dozen clients between them.

There are so many people selling hosting services so cheap that if you do some market research, you will realise that hosting is an absolute NO for making money. This market is hugely saturated now.

    you all are discouraging him.
its a matter of what you allow to your clients actually. go for it. if you allow warez, porn and etc.. webmasters might like it.

buying Server will be costly as you need to get good connectivity with it or get it co-located, to start you can rent dedicated server or get VPS to see how it works and will you be comfortable in securing and optimising it.

Its true that managing a Server can be costlier than getting a reseller account for starters.

Also, currently hosting market is extremely saturated, its hard find decent clients but if u think getting client would not be hard then you can start your own hosting business.

If you are new to dedicated server then I will recomend you to buy VPS first (it would be cheaper and easier to maintain).

if you need any further info then PM me.

The most important thing for a successful hosting company is the support.
Its best to have a helpful 24/7 live chat not only focus on sales but support for hosting issue.

Its not worth it, way to much competition and you won't be able to offer what the big guys can. They get such bulk deals and they own it all.

Since you got the starting stuff, now create a good webhosting site or use some readymade website template (buy one from Template Monster), get one billing script (like WHMCS, WHM-Autopilot etc.) and start promoting your plans.

You will get some clients, but to retain them you need to provide good service.

If you don't have enough money for your own hosting site, don't bother. In the end, you're just going to get shut out by a huge competitor.

once I was hosting warez and ponzy scam sites, I earned 10K$ before my parent company got mad and canceled my servers.

find a niche it will be easier...

for example use DP forum as a market place, and make hosting package tailored to needs people here, then advertise... u will get allot of users!

having a successful hosting business these days is very risky thing. There isn't only one factor that you will sort it if it fails. There are numerous factors like design of the hosting selling web page, support, response of the tech guys, incentivezed offers etc..

make some plans before you enter in this business...
    just my 2c..
